Southwestern Germany, ~ 30 minutes from the French border. But yeah, people here in general travel 'round a bunch - not like it's a hassle, you just need to have your ID with you. Friend from Berlin regularly vistis the British Isles, my French uncle regularly drives up from Southern France etc. Buddy of mine drove through most of Eastern Europe on a motorcycle trip. Another one backpacked to Italy.
