Translations I've seen say that it's symbolizing the contrast of the good (tomatoes) and the bad (radio wire) of the relationship, etc. It's probably much more complicated than that but that seemed to make a little sense in the context of the song.

it's so open-ended that you really can look into it as deeply or as shallowly as you want to... for me all the songs have become very personal and meaningful but maybe that's just me. If you want to take it as "making no sense" then you can do that...
