Blue Sky Noise was definitely a change in sound for Circa Survive, and of course it dissapointed many fans, but it wasn't a bad change in my opinion
I'll agree with Foxhound and say that the last two albums were more dense though. The lyrics on those albums were definitely more cryptic than the ones on BSN.

"cryptic" doesnt always mean better. Some times its just pretentious and self aggrandizing. which is what both of their previous albums treaded on and sometimes crossed.

I disagree, I think this is a reasonably large change in sound for the band. I find it hard to imagine someone who wouldn't at least somewhat like this, but fans of their first 2 albums could easily be disappointed IMO.
I'm a fan of all 3 though, with OLG being the low point for me.

I see both of your points. It is a distinct change. It just so happened that Circa moved in the same direction that my tastes have in the last couple years. It worked so perfectly.

You make a good point. Cryptic is not always better, but what made the last two stand out more was how I was able to get lost listening to them. The whole time I'd listen to them, I would look at the sky and just think of the randomest shit. Sometimes it was the lyrics, or other times it was the guitar tunes. Either way, BSN is still a good album.
