Funny I'm currently at Weeping Tones and so far it's my only sore point, that melo chorus doesn't feel right

first impressions: it's short, and front-loaded. Probably won't top Tropic Rot for me but should be a 3.5 at a minimum. Will definitely spin again and get familiar

New one is a nice blend of everything leading up to this point. Very impressed they still got the sauce after so long out of the game

That Wake of Vultures outro into Bad Bodies intro is fucking exquisite. One of the best moments on an album this year thus far.

Yeah dude I’m in fucking love with this album. 2 full listens in.

Only PTW album I still have to check out is TTR. And I definitely want to spend much more time with this (obviously), TOOD (the only one that hasn’t fully clicked but I do like it, and do so more each spin), Versions for sure and a little more TFTR. Gotsta check out their EP too.

Already got my ticket for the LS show in may! PTW. Converge (love what I’ve listened to but I’m very very much looking forward to my first discog run with them). And The barbarians of Cali. I mean, DAMN. Always loved The Library, and been liking every song I’ve heard of theirs so far, bout a half dozen.

This is most definitely THE show of the year. The can’t miss. Not with that lineup. You can’t afford to.

42 mins — pretty par for the course average runtime for them.

Works perfectly here. Never drags. Doesn’t feel slight in the…slightest.

Alright, here I go double-triple posting again. I’m a fucking writer tho, sue me! I like writing so I get wrapped up in it and the thoughts just keep hitting.

BUT—I digress…

Tbh the one thing that could keep me from 5’ing this, and the one issue I really have, is that final track. At 10 mins, by far their longest (unless there’s one on TTR). I thought we were getting a truly fucking epic closer. But…about half of that is silence in the middle, and the end is pretty underwhelming. Maybe it’ll grow on me. But it’s a shame that such a phenomenal record just peters out like that. Reminds of Deftones self titled and Moana, Deftones diamond eyes and this place is death (literally every song before it fucks, and risk + 976 evil is such a high point…then this place is death feels so anti-climactic.

Ok enough from me. Time for more poison the well.

More from me.

So far I feel the first 7 tracks are where this is strongest. Final four are solid but not as good. SO FAR. These guy’s music tends to grow.

But weeping tones-wake of vultures-bad bodies feels like the strongest stretch — which is the middle of the album. Unusual.

Weeping Tones is beginning to look like the clear winner here for me, and possibly in the utmost upper PTW echelon.

Well, listened through again. And I couldn’t have been more wrong about the 2nd half. It’s epic. The first half is def more in your face and immediate though.

And I’d say Weeping-Vultures-Bodies PLUS Drifting is the strongest stretch.

Once I accepted the final track was really two songs, not one, I was more receptive.btw 2nd ā€œpartā€ of Plague starts at exactly 6 mins in. And it ends perfectly. Soaring and emotional, it’s the perfect ā€œsend-offā€.

This is simultaneously an immediate record and a grower. The best type of album, and the type that more often than not ends up being the most enduring/classic.

Yeah this could very well be a 5.
