songwriting is much more tight and has more direction, and overall there's a whole lot more variety

plans is less of a borefest compared to this but it still doesn't make me feel a whole lot

Plans is a lot more boring than this. A bit too poppy for me. And the songwriting has almost none of the emotion displayed here. I also had a bit of an issue with the production on that one, it's a bit too cloudy for me.

Idk I always felt like Plans was the Death Cab album for people who aren't really fans of the band. It sounds less like Death Cab than any of their other albums.

Plans is a borderline 5 for me tbh. Agreed that it's a bit poppier for sure but that kinda adds to it's charm for me.

Soul Meets Body is one of my fav songs of all time. Brings the feels so hard.

To be clear it's not a bad album in any sense if the word, I just don't see it as a highlight in their discog.

Soul Meets Body might be one of my least favorites there :-/

the thing is it's a hell of a lot more refined than this, there are points on this record where it just wanders off and becomes a bit dull.

I would say that of Plans so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

Imo this is one of the most perfectly constructed albums ever, not a single wasted moment, even when they draw things out like on the title track or We Looked Like Giants I think it suits the tracks perfectly.

plans' poppiness gets sometimes really obnoxious though while this is tolerable throughout

On another topic: Narrow Stairs is the great dark horse of their discography. Agree/disagree?

I will cry to the title track one day, I just know I will.

And that's coming from someone who almost never cries to music and can only recall two, three, maybe four occasions off the top of his head.
