I just think it's a bit silly to expect everyone to attain the same level of 'fun' that you do from something. Making statements about users needing 'have fun with the music they listen to' is just a stupid generalisation. Why would we listen to music at all in the first place if it wasn't fun?

I have no idea why people listen to the music they do. For the most part, fun is not the word I would chose to describe what I get out of most of the music I listen to. But it's all I need out of some it, like Alestorm, and to a lesser extent, this band. I said that to imply that some users here seem to place all else (talent, musicianship, songwriting, etc.) over how much 'fun' the music is to listen to, regardless of whether it's played extremely proficiently, or has complex/intricate structuring and whatnot. If one cannot garner said 'fun' from something that doesn't carry these aspects, methinks they need to relax a little.

I'm heartbroken by your sharp, cutting wit about a band that you don't like and I do.

You're stepping around the point. As a response to someone saying 'Alestorm suck' you made the comment that people need to have fun when listening to music, implying that they didn't already, which is an accusation stepping on thin ice at best. It's not like Alestorm are the only 'fun' band to have ever existed, and power metal isn't the only 'fun' genre.

lol I said, I think certain users need to remember to just have fun, implying that a small handful of elitist pricks put too much weight on the aspects I listed, and this apparently eliminates their ability to enjoy certain bands/albums for what they are once it's clear to them that these artists fall short of their standards. Their standards are obviously guided by their tastes, so if they just don't like something, then that's that. Doesn't make it bad. It's nearly all about opinions/perspectives, that much is understood. What point did I step around? Nowhere did I suggest that Alestorm are the only fun band, nor power metal the only fun genre. It happens to be that way for me for the most part, which might have come through in my comment, but I made no such claim for others. This Message Edited On 02.05.09

The simple fact that you mentioned it now implicates the people posting in the thread. I don't need a long clarification about what you meant, I know what you mean, and again, what you're saying is a complete generalisation. I for one do not to pretend to dislike something when in fact I could possibly be having 'fun' while listening to it. Your comments about 'elitist pricks' are just ridiculous; not everybody has the same taste as you and just because they dislike something you regard as fun and enjoyable by everyone in no way makes them elitist, nor does it mean that they don't listen to fun music. You just keep dragging this out by making the same silly generalisations.
it's clear to them that these artists fall short of their standards. Their standards are obviously guided by their tastes, so if they just don't like something, then that's that.
Exactly. Having a form of standards when it comes to listening to music does not equate to elitism, it merely helps filter through the crap that one shouldn't have to waste time with.

geez AngelPhoenix, might be time to let up on the ego
rasputin, what you described at the end of your post *is* elitism. only drooling insecure retards could see having standards as a bad thing.

Elitism is only when you think your standards (or higher level of) makes you somehow better than others. This may or may not be the case, but simply having standards when it comes to music does not necessarily equate to elitism.

So then my standards are just different from those people that I feel have forgotten to have fun.
