Yep thats where they peaked. American idiot to me was the beginning of the end. They went from kids playing music to 'rockstars'.

i like american idiot and have a lot of nostalgia for it as it was my favorite album ever from about years 12-14, but yeah its definitely the point of no return, hasnt aged as well as a lot of their other material before it, and its seismic success ruined this band

Dookie & Insomniac are classics. Nimrod is great but I've always found Warning very average for their 90s output. I'd put on 1039 over it any day.

american idiot was my favorite album ever when i was 13 but it has not aged remotely as well as the four albums before it imo. still their last solid record tho

I was 14 when I had this and it was top ten of all time. Had the poster on me wall, t-shirt the lot.
A year later and it was all binned off for Ben Sherman’s, Wallabies and a bucket hat thank Christ.

The 4-track demos they've released so far are legit. anyone else listen to them yet?

Haha Zak in my defence I was 13 when AI came out so I loved it and still do. I've always felt that these guys have fans of all ages having released huge albums very far apart in their career.
People love to hate them but they'll always be one of my favourite bands

Yeah the majority of post AI stuff is pretty bad, there are a few gems scattered here and there but mostly dross unfortunately.

AI has aged quite well for me and I don't see it as the "end" or anything. Maybe that would be 21st Century Breakdown, but that's also full of great songs, so I see the Trilogy as more of the "end" if anything. And the trilogy could still have been quite solid if they had produced it properly and narrowed it down to a single album. Dookie is the most coherent of their 90s albums but Nimrod could have also been a classic if it were similarly focused. I am not as much of an Insomniac fan though but it's still good.
The Dookie 30th Anniversary set is huge and really good. The Woodstock full set in high quality is amazing.

21cb is a complete mess lmao but it would have whipped as a lean 10 songs. handful of great tracks on that and a pretty fun amount of usually well paid off variety (the run from last night on earth through peacemaker is a killer three song run where absolutely none of those songs sound anything like each other lol) but it way way way too long for its own good
