Mire Deep and The Great Migration are pretty boring. Rest of the album is awesome

This was really good, but unfortunately the first 3 tracks were the best part of the album
Edit: also the last track was pretty great, those drums

Hard 5 in my book. One thing I love about the band is the awesome way the three guitarists work off each other. Fantastic band chemistry and some absolutely amazing melodic playing.

To me this was when they established themselves as guitar tone kings. Nobody else sounds even close to as good in that realm.
I remember them saying this album was a response to post-metal pedal worship, they just leaned in on distortion. It makes this a meaner album imo, punchier and darker.

I love this album. First three tracks are some of their best tracks. I love the patient interplay with three guitarists - everything is arranged and executed perfectly.

After multiple listens today I came to the conclusion that Following Betulas is clearly the peak of this album. No other song comes close in terms of atmosphere, and those horns towards the end are just crushing. This is a very good album overall, I just don't get the hype for Ghost Trail. Yes, it's great, but far from being the peak of their discog.

see the convo on the previous page, to summarise this was a bad comment...
"Ghost trail’s crescendo middle part thingy is not good. Dootdeedoodootdeedoodootdeedoo give it a rest ykwim? Hate when these guys peddle to lowest common denominator post-rock sounds"
lol
...yes, it's one of their best songs - certainly the highlight here
I do respect your divergent opinion tho. Following Betulas is cool.

I think we're just lucky to have this "Both songs are superb, but which is better?" dilemma on the table. And tbh I do share the controversial opinion on the weirdness of that short guitar line around 3:30, but I have a strange relationship with guitar solos anyway.
