that pretty much sums it up. Mustaine is a better guitar player than Hetfield. Friedman and Chris Poland were better than Hammet, but in the end it doesnt fucking matter, because James destroyed Dave in the songwritign department.

Yeah Dave isnt a bad songwriter, he just doesnt stack up next to the greatest songwriter in Metal history.

The only thing in which Hetfield used to unquestionably one up Mustaine was on the vocals. And I say "used to" because over the years Mustaine has improved as a singer and Hetfield's voice has gone down the shitter

Agreed about the voice as well. Hetfield actually learned to sing correctly and it ruined the rawness and emotion.

I give you credit for rating this a mere "3," since it's a fairly popular and well-loved Metallica album. I admire your independent thinking, and you make great points. I guess I forgot what the vocals sound like since I know all of the words and scream them at the top of my lungs while I'm listening to the album.
I always thought that Metallica were so bad-ass that they could ride lightening like a Greek god or something...but maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part.
