All of that is exactly why this is my fave. It's by far their most "serious" albums and that aspect throws it up to a whole nother level for me.

Guess it’s fair reasoning, the memorable moments in verisakeet are closer in succession than here

I'd agree, Pimeä and Jotunheim are clear standouts on Verisäkeet but this one is a dark, wintry monolith.

Yup, took like 20 years of listening to this band for this to be my favorite but last Fall this finally beat out Verisakeet for me as the #1 spot.

Verisakeet is a killer album with tons of epic moments but this is whole and complete experience from start to finish. Not much here works out of context, you have to just sit there and take it all in and I'm a total sucker for that sort of approach.

Varjoina actually does the same type of thing so I think that's why I like it more than most do but it's just not nearly as good from an instrumentation or songwriting perspective.

I largely agree with the perspective that this is a mostly immaculate 'complete experience' and that sets it apart somewhat. Don't get me wrong I was listening to Kivenkantaja earlier and enjoying myself a lot, but that (and Voimasta ja kunniasta, to a lesser extent) are comparatively inconsistent in the sense they're filled with fantastic moments, but the overall package isn't as fully engrossing imo. I did once consider Verisäkeet 'over-the-top' also until this surpassed that one (I may get there again, one day).

I'm talking relatively here as I have the whole shebang 4d (although this isn't actually a 4).

Yeah this just feels like their most mature, it's like listening to a classic novel
