It would be fun to do a "guide to remasters" list at some point, running down which ones improve on the original and which ones to avoid

That’s a goood idea and then there would be that “indifferent” option for albums that work either way

good luck, theres only tens of thousands of albums that have received remasters (nvm the ones that have been remastered multiple times)

Remaster list would be cool. I pretty much always go for original but there's some albums I could see remaster helping on.

whats crazy to me about this album, is its allegedly about a girl, but its really about the protagonists internal turmoil and the girl is almost just a projection of that. scatology homework is about being an outcast, strangled by a halo is about being raped as a kid, mapplethorpe grey is about our lack of individualism, preacher crawling is about fucking abortion, snuff film at eleven is about materialism and corruption, and piss angel is about feeling insignificant and bathing in the remains of a girl that he idealizes as a consequence of all this

i always interpret this as a kind of feminist album in which the woman is portrayed as a victim of a society that values sex and mysoginy and all that, and i think with terrifyer they just wanted to make that whole angle more obvious since people heard this and accused the band of being mysognist

major [2] to all of that, this band is practically the poster child for "depiction does not equal endorsement".

i get why people would interpret this as wife beating romanticized since JR took a lot of inspiration to write this album after breaking up with his then girlfriend, but even then a lot of the stuff here comes across as sympathetic towards the Jennifer character.

Agreed, although can see where the confusion came from at the time, without the context of what the band would go on to do. With the super goregrind-y cover art, it sorts of colors in the expectations, so you're starting out with a lot of people coming at what you're saying with pre-conceived notions, even if they're misplaced.

Best grind record ever
