Acidicity, though I love Metallica and this album, you are SOO wrong. This album has such a lack of diversity and many of the tracks sound pretty similar. I still enjoy it greatly though. Way more diversity in power metal than thrash

guys you know the only reason Trivium is better than Metallica's St. Anger is because anything is better than St. Anger, right? So the fact that you pick Trivium over any St. Anger song says more about St. Anger than Trivium.
also ace album

Damn a lot of opinions here . But i must say i love this record. Sure the production could be little better(!?) but i somehow like the way it sounds. It's so damn angry! Crank up the volume and it feels like a fucking beating(dyers eve!). To me it's very progressive if you look at their other albums. All the tempo changes and that.
Felt it sounded a bit repetitiv when i first got it, and it kinda is sometimes, but now i don't really mind. oh and the lyrics are superb. Any how i just have to say good review and it's nice to see a different opinion. oh oh and i don't like trivium 'cus of their singing, i don't really like hardcore growling at all but anyway...

That's cool. I used to really like this as well a few years ago, so I know where you're coming from. Blackened is still a great song.
The rest just got really old for me over the last few months. =/...

I really like the album but can see why others might not.
There's the production issue, and I never truly got used to the drum sound, but there are instant classics here. EOTB & TSS are the only songs I never really got into totally.
TLITD has some of the most brilliant guitar interplay, and I love Hetfield's scorching delivery (particularly the verses in the title track).

you state "avoid this whenever possible"
but yet you gave it a 2.5 which is average
why is an average album to be avoided whenever possible?

Even though I don't agree with all it, this is a good review. I personally enjoyed this album. The length never bothered me; there was enough variation in the long songs (Besides "Frayed Ends of Sanity") to keep me interested. But everyone has their own opinion; to each his own.

Ballsy review, and well written. I couldn't disagree with you more though.

I have RtL and MoP and this is probably the only other Metallica album I would ever get. From what I've heard, this was their last good album. I don't really know anything about the S/T though...do they still have their old sound on that album?
