I have all the 70's Pink Floyd albums and I must say that this album is just as good to me as the others. OK, maybe a bit worse but still this album really does the trick for me IMO. It has some really emotional songs that are great and Gilmour's solos are just as brilliant as they were ages ago.

I think division bell is a divine master piece some may say im crazy but i do believe this is the greatest Album floyd has ever put out. Quality of quanity The great album with out waters. They went all out. I think they give a more melodic soothing approch which shows the bands maturity over the years and how they aged. High Hopes and Comming back to life are GOD LIKE tracks. I could sit down and listen to this album over and over and over. It touches my soul and I love this album. It is unque yes but like i said a band matures and so do there music. I will probally request high hopes at my funeral... I hope that everyone can appreciate this work it is a truly classic that goes down in the bands later history.

Me too. Very soothing. And it has an earthly, "world music" vibe that I find very enjoyable. Favourite tracks are probably Marooned, High Hopes and Coming Back To Life. Beautiful really.

In Wondering i already have "animals"Darkside of the moon" "the wall" "the final cut" "wish you were here" "pipers at the gates of dawn" and this cd ive wanted for a long time because i heard this theory that when pink floyd was "dieing" for lack of a betterword they wanted to end with a boom so they produced this album as a closer is this true

I'm a pretty young PF fan, so i haven't got all the history, but i defendly think that this album is on a top 5 list of PF music.

And yes it's right that i doesn't have the same nerv as the old waters music, but i has an fantastic melodi side and it's alot easyer to listen to.

4/5 from here...

Aside from the spelling errors, and double post, I have to disagree with you. This album has a few good tracks, but nothing compared to their earlier works. If you're a hardcore Pink Floyd fan, and must have their entire discography, then pick this one up. But don't expect to hear music comprable to their usual top quality stuff from before The Wall.

i jsut listened to The Divison Bell for the first time straight through, and I think its a pretty good album.(although i wouldn't say its the best post wall album because i haven't heard the final cut or AMLOR.) I'm not a big fan of a great day for freedom, but aside from that, i think all the songs on the album are at least decent. I think that at parts in the guitar solo in Lost For Words, the solo sounds like the first guitar solo in Wish You Were Here.

This gets a 4/5 from me. Good review.

Born-Yr-Aur's Pink Floyd Thesis:

The enigma known as Pink Floyd has confounded me since my foray into popular music began all those years ago. Many are ready to do Floyds' bidding, be it murder or be it verbally assaulting others, and all whilst salivating over the legend that is Syd Barret. I myself have listened to many a Floyd album, and always end up scratching my head in utter bewilderment. Upon re-evaluation, I feel confident I've come across what truly compromises Pink Floyd.

25% Hype
40% Dullness
5% Legacy
30% Mind-boggling Genius

I used to be on the offense when it came to "converting" people to appreciate the finer qualities of Pink Floyd's work, but I gave that up when when I realised, and I'm thankful for this realisation, that people have differing tastes and that's that. There's no statistics about it. No right or wrong. Just a remarkably diverse sum of people who have a remarkably diverse choice in what they prefer to listen to. Genre's are going to clash and so are fans, but in the end - one man's Metallica is another man's Pink Floyd is another man's Spineshank is another man's Hootie and the Blowfish.

While a considerable amount of hype revolves around Pink Floyd, that doesn't carry a rediculously large fanbase for decades alone. The music has to last. And in this case - it has. Dave's gorgeous guiter-work and Roger's cynically biting lyrics are just as fresh today as they were when my parent's were listening to them for the first time all those years ago. And alot kids like that! And alot of kids don't. I really don't find it that perplexing.

Of course, that thesis was based on one man's opinion.

great album.

i hate how just because waters isn't in there, ppl hate it or say its crap.

the only thing i disagree with you about is that I think Poles Apart should get a 5/5. I think that that and What do you want from me are the strongest songs on here.

I love Gilmour's work, in fact he's my favourite guitarist. Although, as far as songwriting goes Barrett > Gilmour, and when we're talking lyrically Waters > Gilmour... Gilmour plays his guitar as if he was born with it, he can however, tell a story with his guitar work which is why I find this album entertaining.

Not my favourite of the Floyd albums though...but definitely worth listening to/buying if u're a fan of Gilmour. (probably not if u're a fan of older Pink Floyd).

Eh, my personal preference is Gilmour > Waters. Obviously a lot of people disagree and believe Waters to be the "driving force" of Pink Floyd, but I would, with my own opinion, disagree and say that Gilmour is the better "force" behind Floyd.

Gilmour has always been my favourite guitarist since the first day I heard Pink Floyd, and he's been my main influence whilst playing guitar for the past decade. And in terms of writing music, in my opinion he is one of the best there are in terms of rock.

At first listen I thought this album no more than any other Pink Floyd album, but after another listen it quickly became one of my favourites, mostly because it's obviously heavily influenced by Gilmour's style rather than Waters'.

3 years ago, when I still bought CDs, I bought Relics alongside with this. I wanted to get into the Floyd, and thought that buying an "old one" and a "new one" would give me a good overview. I really liked Relics, but found out that the Division Bell was a putrid, overblown, utter pile of crap. Dave Gilmour should have called it quits when Waters departed instead of trying to write his own songs. Seriousely, there's not a decent track on here.
