I'm enjoying this for what it is but I'm not sure it's significantly better than Berserker or Heathen Army

It's significantly better. There's 2-3 songs here that are alot better than anything on those albums. This is Without the low points of those albums too. Heathen army is particular is pretty bad

the fact that it took them 13 albums to do a simple accoustic track and thats considered a new thing for them shows how stale they've been for years

Ehh. I don't agree. A lot of bands stick to their guns how many melodic death metal bands do acoustic tracks ? It's not really a standard type of style for these bands.
|
| |
sure but youre talking about an acoustic track specifically whereas my comment was more about how unadventurous and samey AA have been in general.
compared to melodeth peers, insomnium, dark tranquility, at the gates, be'lakor, arch enemy, in flames (even if they suck now) all have been more adventurous and ambitious

Be'lakor aside, I enjoy all those other bands, but Insomnium are the only ones who have come close to reaching the levels of their early classics

Well I've been on. Massive ACDC binge lately. So I guess you could say I'm not to worried if bands stay on their lane and don't venture out and try other things lol. I'm going to critique amon amarth or acdc for sticker to their guns. Cannibal corpse, slayer etc etc. Alot of bands are the same way they do one thing and stick to it
|
| |
yeah i mean fair comment most metal bands stay firmly in their lane, i just feel amon amarth are one of the worst offenders for it

The problem with this band is that almost everything they've released since WOOOS sounds self-derivative. Hell, twilight of the thunder god came right after and they ripped themselves off with a dollar store version of cry of the blackbirds with the title track

Dude me and shard just discussed and settled this a lot of bands are derivative. if you like the band and can handle that great if not listen to other bands that venture out more haha. I would say a good 50-60 percent of bands are the exact same way tbh. A lot of bands make the same shit over and over just slightly differently
