Glorious absolutely should have been on an LP officially somewhere, even if they saved it for The Resistance to help bolster it.
Nightshift Superstar is this album's Supermassive Black Hole. Incredible groove, impossibly catchy. Not quite a 5 for me just because it doesn't check all the boxes for what I prefer from Muse (spacey and/or guitar-driven -- for me that's Hexagons and Cryogen), but damn is it a fun song for certain.

Definitely agree with 'Hexagons' also being a 5, especially when it first dropped as a single.
That was the most inspired Matt in a very long time.

The opera stuff in Dark Forest didn't initially jive with me but it's growing. Helps that the guitars afterwards absolutely rule. Definitely a strong opener. Reminds me of Knights of Cydonia lite -- and I say that with adoration because that might be my favorite Muse song ever.

Can you explain what makes this Disney-adjacent?

I dunno man, my wife loves Disney and she hates Muse.

"Black Holes was the first Muse album I found disappointing. Five great songs, an awful one (Invincible) and 5 okay songs. Honestly preferred The Resistance overall."
Agree.

this is just a mildly executed nostalgia trip
also the closer easily clears everything else here

Be With You got a decent amount of indifference when it dropped as a single, but that drop in the second half is one of the best moments here. I love that it lulls you into thinking "predictable love ballad" then just obliterates.

I do enjoy the closer (the lyrics help), and there are some nostalgia trips here for certain, but we're pretty far apart on the "mildly executed" part. Also there's enough here that's fresh IMO (Hexagons, Nightshift Superstar, Hush).

Black Holes has their strongest songs overall (gotta see how Wow! Signal settles) but yeah, big lull in the middle. Take a Bow, Map of the Problematique and Knights of Cydonia are huuuuuuge bangers.

Shimmering Scars, Be With You (this one reminds me of another track and I can't place it, been driving me nuts), Hexagons, and The Sickness are my highlights after 3 spins

Cryogen and Hexagons are pretty much hands down the top two tracks to me, but I also agree that The Dark Forest is VERY similar to Knights of Cydonia. Feels like a spiritual successor.

Agreed on every single point there. Those are my two favorites and The Dark Forest is very much a follow up to Knights!

they are certainly sister songs. far more convincing and organic than the citizen erased/globalist nonsense

I kinda feel like his vocals are weaker than on previous albums. He sounds like he's really straining with the falsetto at times. Even WOTP had that incredible high note on the final chorus of "Euphoria" pulled off clean as a whistle. Maybe it'll bother me less with repeated listens, but for now it's what's holding this back from a 4.5 on my end.
