Both Warning and 40 Watt are Patrick Walker solo projects with hired guns as a band. There would be no reason to make this Warning if it didn't fit Warning; even if 40 Watt Sun shifted away from metal I don't think people would really bat an eye if this was a 40 Watt album that went metal again.
As for depressing... I don't know, but the Stations song that was the first single did kind of find itself on loop because it felt exactly how I'm feeling, wrapping itself around me like a warm blanket. Maybe the rest of the album cranks up the sadness but that one is bittersweet.
