I agree they are getting a bit stale with the last couple lps. I remember my first time listening to The Spark, hating it because of all the weird things they tried, and now I consider it one of their best (a little bit like Brand New's Daisy).
We still have the bangers, but I hope they'll shake it up a bit on the next one.

With that I agree, this is like the 3rd album in this style and and the first of those was the best

Been interesting to read these comments - I had no idea that Kiss For The Whole World was so disliked (though I guess I should've guessed based on its averages on this site). Aside from a couple duds, I prefer its highlights over the ones on this album.

When a band has been around this long do they really need to evolve? Is it not enough for them to rest on their laurels?

Idk ES make me expect drastic changes, but I guess it's hard to reinvent yourself 8 times

I feel like this album tries to do some similar things as the last one but in a much better form, A Kiss was a bore aside from several songs. NiT&EiP is still amazing though.
I'm one of those people who loved everything this band did when I was in high school and since then, I periodically lose interest in them and then they win me back again. Lose Your Self is the latter stage. There's just something so sincere about what these guys do, even if it falls into cringe or boredom from time to time. I love ES and hate pretty much all the other bands similar to them haha.
Anyways, does anyone hear that Callous Daoboys breakdown in The Flick of a Swich II?

Made it through all of this yesterday and these dudes just aren't for me anymore, it seems. I adore their first 4 records and Nothing Is True was great but they're 1 for 4 on releases for me since 2017 and I haven't really liked their one off songs much either. This bored me and demons has an awful chorus.

For me this is probably on par with AKFTWW, which I also gave 4.0 and really enjoy.
The middle loses a bit of momentum, I guess. Demons is stuck in my head though and I love the closer

I might give it another couple listens just because I love Shikari. I want to love their new material because they're awesome dudes and put on two of the best live shows I've ever been to.

^It took me a few listens, but what ultimately won me over was listening to it whilst playing Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3+4. I was in my element and it made me feel 15 again lol.

idk if I am along in this but Flick of the Switch pt. 1 may be my favorite track on here... the lyrics are wildly catchy to me even though they are a bit goofy (classic).
I see you for who you really areeeee
you're the poison in the reservoir
I was hyped to get to part 2 and it was a big letdown though.

Just re-read the review after now listening to this a few times and could not agree more. I love the first half and then the second half falls off a cliff.

Flick Of the Switch Pt. 1 is probably the best track, I fully agree with that.

I am at the point where this is growing off me a bit because it's more of the same. I guess after some time I'll be able to just listen to it for what it is
I like 'it's okay' in concept, but it just sounds a bit tired

its ok is the worst track on here, the chorus just ruins it completely
its a bit disjointed but i've been having fun with it despite it not being the most amazing thing in the world. dead in the water and flick 1 are both great

"idk if I am along in this but Flick of the Switch pt. 1 may be my favorite track on here"
Its the best song on here by miles. Not to say the other ones are bad, but it just hits different.

It’s more of the same but retains the Shikari charme and brings back some feels compared to the rather short’n’wild approach on Kiss. I like it. What always bothers me though is them splitting their longer songs but some random comment somewhere once claimed that‘s due to per-play-monetization on music services lol

I guess the songs also work better in playlists, intros and outros are extra songs (Bloodshot and Bloodshot Coda for example)
