Two of his favorite bands are Decapitated (early) and Necrophagist, but he's never really listened to Cryptopsy or Suffocation, and he's not really a fan of Morbid Angel from what I can tell. He has specifically said his favorite tech death album of all time is Epitaph

What’s his favourite Breaking Benjamin song though?
|
| |
Album title sounds like a motley crue song

I think they are just leaning into the whole fastest band on earth branding. The fact that they don't take themselves too seriously as people is appealing to me.

idk Gameofmetal can you really call yourself a metal fan when I see no rated Vivaldi, Stravinsky, Moonlight Sonata, etc etc etc. Really silly elitist train to go down when someone can always one-up you.

Thems posercore that's why
anyway cold take, reflexive defense etc.

Y’all are falling for the most basic bait imaginable
|

You can't just claim sarcasm in hindsight because the initial statement got clowned on. That sort of elitism isn't just a figment of imagination, it's a mentality that is frequently maintained on this site. It ain't a joke if it keeps being pushed as sincerity.
|
| |
Oh it's sincere. I did not really intend to bait yall into reacting as if I said he should be shot in the street rather than just clowning on him for having kind of tourist-y taste in the same genre he plays for a living lmao.

I just automatically assume its bait because there’s no way anyone’s this fucking stupid, we’re talking « forgetting how to breath » brain-damaged
|
| |
It's ok user Pooter9000 I'm sure you know a lot about other stuff.

If i was a famous musician in a certain genre, i probably would be a little embarrassed personally not to know anything about the founders of the genre if asked in an interview. But also maybe not... if i was that successful maybe i wouldnt give a fuck.
I will say modern tech death is so far removed from stuff like MA and suffocation that it doesnt surprise me in the slightest that a lot of these guys havent heard or dont care about those bands. And thats not a problem to me. If anything, I'd say hey check it out you might like it. But honestly, a lot of those guys probably wouldnt like it. I already know some younger guys in my local scene that say a lot of the 80s and 90s stuff is "mid" lol

Dean is the man and you are a dork
|
| |
You're so hurt lol.
|
| |
Even if it was bait or whatever, it isn't necessarily that hot of a take. Like I said, it's an opinion shared by a lot of people who are into music criticism. I get some may feel like you can't truly understand a genre until you've immersed yourself in it to the point of oversaturation. I think what upsets some folks is Dean's unabashed lack of concern that he doesn't know as much about the genre of music he plays. If I could play like he can, I'd carry the same confidence. Who gives a shit what Necrphagist was doing 35 years ago as I sweep-pick the fucking alphabet.

I do, user Gameofmetal, no need for such flattery here.
|
| |
Are any of the bands early work worth a spin? Only heard their last 2
|
| |
personally their first two are pretty bad they didn’t really have a songwriting glow up till relentless mutation. too much mindless noodling for me but if you like that kinda tech it’s prolly worth a listen

"it's very important that we respect the classics of our genre"
nah. Morbid Angel is boring af tbh. Also, metal culture is literally about giving the middle finger to tradition and religion so this take is brain dead
|
| |
This is the most common take in metal culture yes, it's very important that we respect the classics of our genre and especially when you're playing in the same style lol.
And it’s a dumbass take every single time.
