This shit makes me feel 18 again listening to it and then my back hurts and I’m like “oh yeah”

Early AOTY contender for me. Album absolutely slaps, its like they never left. Primal Bloom, Weeping Tones, and Bad Bodies are top tier PtW tracks.
This sounds like a mix of all of their eras with a modern coat of paint. Putney absolutely smashed the mix on here, amazing stuff.

The last 15 seconds of Plague is such a killer callback of December and Distance records. I ate that spoken word shit back in high school and I still eat it up 20 years later. AOTY contender for me no question.

what happened w/ Trembling Level?
Yeah I wasn’t a huge fan of that song tbh. It was alright. I’m assuming the band kindof thought the same? Because what they gave us a bit later on with this album is so much more raw, hard hitting and polished (but not in an overproduced kind of way, like more sharply chiseled and honed/developed).
I only listened to it two or three times though, partly because it wasn’t really grabbing me.
Re an above comment: damn I’ll feel like shit if it’s his daughter’s name, ha. But yeah it definitely sounds working title-ish. I’m sure I was overthinking it, but I’m well aware I was. Like thinking out loud. Reminds me of those Deftones working titles, Dallas and Melanie. Could mean a lot, could be just a placeholder that stuck.

“Tough to even pick highlights after the first Tough to even pick highlights after the first couple spins because this is just solid front to back. Feels like it's gonna end up about even with YCBY and The Tropic Rot at the top of my PtW ranking”
I feel the exact same way. But I tried. Once I start listing my favorites though, I realize I’m listing over half the album, or if I cut it down, like I’m leaving too many out. I do think Weeping Tones and Mercedes are at the very top, along with Primal Bloom and Bad Bodies. But then what about Wax Mask, Everything Hurts, A Wake of Vultures, Drifting without end etc?
I only know that Melted and Plagues feel slightly below par with the rest. Very good, but not great songs
TTR is still the only PTW I need to listen to, and will very soon, but this definitely feels up there with YCBY. Doesn’t top it, just can’t decide if it’s equal to or just slightly lesser than.

yall didn’t live with that annoyance from back in the day
I did. And I no agree, cool as a throwback, but easier to just be another track.
Wildcard—I initially felt the same way man, seeing that runtime had me hyped as fuck. Felt anti-climactic initially, but now I really fucking love that 2nd track/Mercedes. Plague still a bit underwhelming, at least in relation to the rest of the album’s caliber

The deftones titles "Dallas" and "Melanie" were ACTUALLY names of strippers lmao. I assume ones that Chino met through the years. Sorta glad Eros never saw the light of day, horrible circumstance with Chi but those song titles were just weird

Melted is heavy as fuck, so it makes up for not being one of the stronger tracks on the album.
And Plague Them is such an odd closer. I'm not a fan of the hidden track idea here, maybe it's to bookend their entire career, and the more melodic hidden song wouldn't have fit the theme of the album.
Personally I think Drifting Without End would have been an incredible album closer

I think I'm gonna make my own version of the tracklist, putting Mercedes into the album without hiding it.
Adding back in Trembling Level wherever it seems to fit best and putting Drifting Without End as the closer. It's sacrilege but I think my version will flow better lol

The best part about it is it feels like it would have come out 2 years after the last one, in a normal progression. It doesn’t try to return to the glory days, it doesn’t try to mix all its sounds together, it just sounds like where the next album would of naturally took them in a discography without an hiatus. It’s definitely a little heavier than the last two, but anyone who liked the direction of versions and tropic rot, you’re getting more of that, and they don’t even pretend to care about further distancing themselves from OoD/TftR fans. This is who they are.

@nipplehair looool that is hilarious about Dallas and Melanie. I loved Smile though, I believe chino said that was by far the best track from the Eros sessions.
Yeah drifting without end would def work as a solid closer. Melted > Plague, agreed. Tis heavy as fuck indeed. Maybe it’s more the sequencing, could perhaps work a little better towards the beginning, not sure

"I am curious, however, because some of the mixes on this album sound a bit odd. For example, Wax Mask and Primal Bloom are more mid-rangey and definitely sound like they were recorded at a different time than the rest of the album. Perhaps Trembling Level was among that batch of songs as well. "
I've also noticed that

Had one listen to this last night, thinking it's going to be a 4 but I'm going to have to cut up the final track, all that empty space before the secret track destroys replayability, does the secret track have a name does anybody know?
