"it's difficult not to feel patronised when listening if you are at all familiar with music that handles themes like mental health with the respect and grace it deserves."
taking a look through the lyrics, this really comes through. especially if you contrast it with something like The Reticent
Mirage was great, Coma was fine, I can't even get through this enough to really throw a rating on there. it just sounds like compressed atmoblack paint by numbers

"How anyone is supposed to take a masked man screaming "I burn like fire" repeatedly is beyond a joke. Nice alliteration, man. Burning like fire. Excellent."
Burned bodies burned brighter because butane bellowed broadly bearing blue baleful blazes

This isn't bad, but there's not much to write home about.
I can see why people are subjectively pissed though, time spent on hardly rewarding music is gone forever.
Gaerea want to sound like later-era Mercenary, only Mercenary are good.

If you want to heap even more torture on yourself, go and watch their ‘making of’ mini documentaries. They don’t even sound like real people talking, it sounds like the comments were AI generated, and you’d think that they were in the midst of creating The dark side of the moon or something. Absolutely dreadful album, offensively bad in every conceivable way.

Also...
“This all just seems like your very personal read on it”
Should darknoctus be speaking for someone else?! What a weird comment. Of course it’s their interpretation. This garbage is so obviously contrived and fake; they’re trying to present a clear attempt at mass market appeal as some grand artistic statement. Chunks of this are so obviously cribbed from sleep token, too, literally to the note.

yeah their comment to me basically reads as a redundant "this just sounds like a review" like wtf were they expecting

There’s a difference between having an opinion on the music and arrogantly speaking as if you know the motives, thoughts, or intent of the people that made the music. The sections I quoted gave me that vibe, I didn’t think it was confusing. Obviously a review is subjective but it’s still possible to sound like you’re completely talking out of your ass.
I’m open to the possibility that I misinterpreted those quotes, but you haven’t said so.

I’m open to the possibility that I misinterpreted those quotes[2]
But this isn't remotely productive and it was initially just meant as an observation, not the initiation of shit flinging, so I'll drop it.

They ‘gave you that vibe’, whilst you’re trying to chastise someone for describing the same thing in much more detail. Give over.

art doesn't live in a vacuum and the resulting work can absolutely give you an impression of the thoughts, feelings and ideas that went into its creation. i'm not at all suggesting that my assessment of their motives is factually correct but it's absolutely how i felt about them. i suppose next time i'll redundantly preface every sentence with "in my opinion" since people don't seem to grasp a subjective assessment without that.
if you think i'm talking about of my ass, great, write your own review if you like.
" I’m open to the possibility that I misinterpreted those quotes, but you haven’t said so."
you didn't misinterpret my quotes - i said what i said. you're just wrong about how people can assess works of art.

Noctus since we’re allowed to interpret people’s thoughts feelings and motives during the creation of their art…..
You wrote Trisagion and I felt that. 5/5

appreciated ♥
but to be clear if someone wanted to interpret my artistic intentions with my own work they'd have every right to do so, a lot of people ended up speculating about the finer details and intentions and i find that invaluable to see how certain things landed with listeners.
