Dav Dralleon is really going hard on Mick Gordon worship. Abstract Void is also mixing synthwave with blackgaze. Elay Arson is also very metal with guitar, but I think the only good one is Smoke; others are too one note imo

If you mean "goes really hard" as metal-infused, that's basically what darksynth is. That's when instead of 80s and retro vibes it's pulling more from horror movies, hotline miami, and metal. It's not the most helpful description since this divergence happened pretty much as soon as synthwave was made and there's a lot that tow the line between the two. But at least if you search on RYM you'll want darksynth before synthwave.
