This is great, Purple Strings is one of the best songs they've ever written but man I miss when Nothing was a band and not just Dom

THAT was one of the best reviews I've ever read. Well done! As for the album, I preordered it months ago at Bandcamp and the wait d*** near killed me. And it was definitely worth it! Someone mentioned Radiohead and I felt the same. Even the chord progressions on a couple of tracks feel very Radiohead. Also on a few of the tracks, Cannibal World especially, it seems like someone's been listening to some drumlines. Heavy and propulsive. Purple Strings/Toothless Coal is a kicka** one-two punch. On par with Catch A Fade/Famine Asylum from TGD.

So anyway, great review and great album.

Edit:

One last thing. I also felt some Pink Floyd vibes at times.

Thanks man, glad you're digging the album!

This def has some Radiohead/Pink Floyd vibes at times. Pretty unique addition to their discography, I for one am glad they did something different here but still having a few tracks that appeal to the old fans.

I’m not an active Sputnik member and I’m not really sure why I’m sharing this here besides the fact I want to get it off my chest

The show tonight in Phoenix, I was front row and shouted “CHLOROFORM” towards the end of the set (they played it once a couple cities ago because people online had been requesting it)

Didn’t think I was being disrespectful, mind you Nothing has invited me on stage both other times I have seen them. But I guess I crossed a line and Nicky went off, with one of his worst comments being “someone needs to kick you in the face”

After the final (planned) song he asked the rest of the band if it was “Chloroform” time and Doyle stormed off stage “I’m fucking done” and that was the show

I waited around to apologize to Nicky since I felt I offended him or something. He never came out. A crew guy or someone from one of the openers walked up and asked if I was waiting for him. He said “Yeah man I don’t think it’s gonna happen, he’s in a really bad mood but you didn’t do anything wrong.” Gave me a hug and that was it

Made amazing memories with Nothing but this left a sour taste in my mouth. And last time I talked to Nicky, back in September, he said this would be their final album and he’s “retiring” because “[he’s] getting old”

If this is what I’m left with as a final impression, I’m kind of bummed. Rant over

Damn dude, that really sucks. From the docs and podcasts I've heard Nicky seems like a pretty chill dude. Intense but not a bad guy at all, guess you never really know a person. Hopefully he was just having an off day but that's kind of a shitty reaction just for asking to play their second most popular song lol

I'm not sure how you're a professional musician and get openly pissy at fans for shouting song requests. Pretty common practice at concerts and easy enough to tune out. Like I get that he might have been in a bad mood or whatever, but that kind of behavior turns fans into former fans. Dick move. I know we're only getting your side of the story but as long as we can safely assume you're not omitting dick behavior of your own, then "sheesh never meet your heroes" [2]

I’m really confused because there are even comments on their Instagram post about the show eg “Sorry about that one dude”

Not like I was heckling or being obnoxious. I understand my side of the story is the only side heard but wow this experience just leaves me with an entirely different perspective

This honestly sounds like a b-sides album especially compared to The Great Dismal, but it's still good. There's times where they wear the MBV influence on their sleeves too blatantly though. Cannibal World matches the album cover perfectly, in the sense that they're both very cringy.
