And I hate both

listening right now and this band is pretty much what i hoped sleep token would be. an even blend of the pop elements with heavy djent riffs. i can see the appeal by i also see why 'true metalheads' would call it the worst thing conceived. lyrics have as much life as a paper doll but he does some great screams when he's not sing over many layers of autotune. i wouldn't listen to this every day but i wouldn't mind it on. some of it is a nothingburger, especially the last song.

okay, i'll elaborate. the heavy riffs feel like a reward in between the pop type stuff and feel mostly well done. it's carefully sprinkled in where both aspects of their sound get to take equal stage. i don't care that i'm supposed to hate this. i'll give it a couple more jams, but the first listen is surprisingly good. last song is still boring.

For the record, the pissy music snob in me wanted to give this lower just because of WHAT it is, but I would've been lying had I claimed the music was truly any worse than being around a 2.
I meant what I said about there being some noticeable talent in this group. I just feel like they need more focus.

Hating soulless focus group bullshit isn’t snobby fam, but I hear ya. I don’t think it’s *quite* a 1 but it’s pretty fucking close. The effects on pretty much all the clean vocals are fucking horrid. Idk if they thought it made it sound cool or moody but they were dead wrong

Music doesn't exist in a vacuum and I think removing the context of a piece of work makes it incomplete. All music is the result of a process, an ethos. This music isn't terrible on a purely technical level, definitely better than Sleep Token. But it's chasing the same thing.
idk I'm not content with music just being decent background noise, I need to be engaged and this whole thing just comes across like a dead end.
