@sow and row I had no idea there was an Aaron Weiss feature on that album and I’m a big fan of it so it really must have been wasted/missed opportunity lol

I really want to like this more than I do tbh. Auguries of Guilt is literally the best song on here and that came out like a year ago and emulates their style which they dropped for the most part on this. Like the post-hardcore stuff isn't baddd but I just dont really care to hear it in this group. It's tough when their last album was my absolute fav lol

This sits as a solid 3.5 I've decided.

Some of it feels a tad forced - the rest is a mesh of good ideas that range from inspired to strange. Musicianship is great though.

granted i haven't followed these guys that closely as of late but this is the same band that released harmlessness? a few songs in and now that the shock i felt at first has settled i gotta say i'm liking this quite a bit so far

I'm of the opinion that the aggressive, heavy moments really help this band. There's a fury on this album that wasn't really present on Illusory Walls that I really dig. I agree that it's a less accessible album than IW, but the more you listen to it, the better it gets.

Imagine my surprise when I put on this album after not hearing any of the band's work post-Harmlessness and then just getting posthardcore fucking ALT-metal lmao

Holy s***; I only listened to the first single (which I didn't like), so I knew they were going with a more aggressive attitude, but I wasn't expecting anything as heavy as the opener. Nice surprise.

@Hawks depends on what you're more into.
I love "Harmlessness" which is more of midwest-ish kind of emo; "Illusory Walls" was also another high mark and I'd say the veered into some post-rock influences in that one. Now this new one is more post-HC and some metal as well.
Can't go wrong with any of these three IMO.

I dig all of those sounds/genres so I'll just start at the beginning and go chrono lol.
