By the way this album sounds fantastic. I love Chino's spot in the mix. Someone else mentioned it already but Chino isn't reaching vocally like he has the last two albums.

“ Is infinite source signaling this as the end?”
I hope not. Seems too on the nose to mean anything else though.

Yeah production is immaculate.
Infinite source definitely a standout. But I don’t think Deftones will ever stop making music (except for death etc).

Definitely could see them closing a farewell tour setlist with that track. Why else write it? Idk LH, they've always taken their time with everything they've done. They'll be pushing 60 next album cycle and no way they play into their 60's. Chino struggles live now as it is.

I think Madonna is the best song here. That driving groove really gets me.
Steph steals the show here. Is there not enough Frank here?

"The last ride we're gonna take
Our final wave and bow"
Definitely feels like a swan song of sorts. That last swell in the final chorus absolutely took my breath my away, just gorgeous stuff.

last four songs are awesome imo. i know some folks aren't into "cut hands" but i love it; the keyboard sounds very faith no more-ish in the chorus there.

Great review, I've been calling this the most deftonesy deftones album, and lol'd when that was also your opening (more eloquently put than me, of course).

departing the body is about touring.... Between this and infinite source... I think it's the end boys.
Now to release Eros in remembrance of Chi and send the band off.

Eh, just reading the room. They've been my favorite band for 28 years. If they end with this I'm satisfied.

This thing really takes off with Infinite Source and just does not let go from there. Phenomenal record, easily better than Ohms and Gore.
@Mantis one hell of a send-off album if that's the case.

Metal dream sounds a little like APC’s Hourglass (the verses do at least).

yknow I would’ve called you crazy for saying this is the end but shit you might be right.
It’s just they’re more popular than they’ve ever been. They’d be leaving a shit ton of money on the table
And ya, as much as I like Gore and Ohms this sounds a lot more inspired.

I was just foolin
They've my favorite band for about the same amount of time, I'm good with and grateful for the catalog of music they've already released too, and the times I've been blessed to see them perform.
I love Steph on this record. The first few songs remind me of the guitar style of Adrenaline and Around the Fur (lot of high/low dynamics, like a chunk riff with high harmonic accents, and almost aquatic wall of sound distorted full chord strums), but thru the len of the shoegazey space rock of KNY and Ohms. Obviously heavy on the atmosphere, but a slightly different flavor than before.
Record as a whole just hits on so many of my favorite elements of their sound. Maybe its because I became a fan in the Around the Fur era, and this one kind of plays like a deftones "closing statement" (like you said, party pooper), but the vibe here is very AtF to me.

These songs need the live treatment… and I need some fucking lyrics. From what I can make out this is the best Chino has been in a while. metal dream has one of his best hooks in a long ass time
