This might be one of their only albums where the singles are the most uninteresting songs on the album too.

This definitely just reveals itself as another rock solid Chevelle record on subsequent listens. Initially, I guess I may have been hunting for flaws (found a few, but meh). The formula is there and we all know it's not strayed far from with any consistency. But, lo and behold, it's just another tight lil Chevelle effort that gives you the good stuff. The best stuff? Nah. But we knew that already.

This feels a little like a modern day Hats Off to the Bull response to NIRATIA's Sci-Fi Crimes. The previous record colored a little more outside the lines, so they respond with a tighter, more focused (worse?) album that still is great

"I don’t really get the 3.8 joke. 5 of the 10 albums aren’t even 3.8 lol"
The fact that 5 of their albums are the exact same score speaks volumes. But then looking at the rest of the albums...2 of them are 3.7, 2 of them are 3.9, and one of them is their debut that nobody ever references. Removing that one, they have 9 LPs in a row that together average exactly 3.8 on the dot, with a +/- 0.1 across the board. That's 23 YEARS of solid consistency in making solid music.

Vocal delivery is very weird on this record. Didn’t rate this as much as I was hoping I would.

I agree that I expect Chevelle to be Chevelle and they haven't changed since I started listening when I was a teenager back in like 2004. I feel like I would hate it if they did lol
I'll give this a spin.

What I like about them is they stick to their guns, when it comes to sound. They add just enough outside-the-box stuff to change it up, and still sound refreshing.
Heck, I remember when the solo in Pinata was a huge thing for diehard fans, simply because it had a huge guitar solo in it. This album for me, is the culmination of everything they have done as a band, and it works.
Shocked at the End of the World is arguably their heaviest track, which friggin' soars, Wolves is straight in your face heavy, with AI Phobias mastering the "I Get It" dancy vibe that you cannot help but move to. The industrial elements work so well, and are refreshing to hear since they did that with La Gargola.

I only liked the first and last song, those are pretty nice, the rest is whatever

Ok I can’t believe this is actually a 3.8 lol. I shouldn’t be surprised but the consistency of 3.8s is incredible. Also, because I think it falls short of their usual standards.
Not a bad album, but disappointing imo. I thought Niratias was fantastic and they really pushed their sound, but this feels short, slight and like a step back. Feels one dimensional. Unfortunately, I think this is bottom tier chevelle, better than point #1 and maybe better than TNC, but that’s about it imo.

I agree that opening and closing tracks are best. I also really like Rabbit Hole and AI Phobias, Jim Jones and Wolves are ok, rest is pretty forgettable for me.

Apologize for the multiple posts, just wanted to add that some of the albums that aren’t 3.8s anymore, were indeed 3.8 at one time. Can’t recall which ones, but I think 2 or maybe even 3 of them were.
Sci fi and la Gargola two best, followed by wwn and hats off (underrated imo), maybe Niratias.

Not really warming up to this, but at this point, I'm just happy they're selling records, they sure do deserve it. There is an abundance of great Chevelle.

Other than the debut that is only a 3.5 all their main albums are very close to 3.8. Even if a point one (heh) moved or so during the days when I last saw them. They were close enough. This isn't trading money or what a first down is. I'd round up the debut to a 3.8 ;P

Point #1 is actually pretty slick too. If were giving all their albums a 3.8 we gotta stick to the script 😤

'Pale Horse', 'Wolves' and 'AI Phobias' are great, but I have to admit the overall album doesn't stick with me as much as I hoped it would.
