i didnt know people actually listened to babymetal outside of a novelty listen.

@Light I will spare you. While The Other One definitely wasn't my thing, I found it an enjoyable listen. They are more than a tiktok meme apparently.
@Smok you and I find different things attractive

Yeah I agree with most here. It feels like a modern metal jukebox album and not an actual babymetal album. I preferred their last album greatly.

As an album experience, The Other One and Metal Galaxy are still my favorites from BABYMETAL. But I love every track on this album. My Queen, Algorism, Sunset Kiss, and White Flame are early favorites. They really saved the best for last here. I think the verses on My Queen are such a cool direction for them to explore with Su's delivery. I hope we get more of that. Brand New Day has always been one of my favorite BABYMETAL tracks so I was bound to love Sunset Kiss and I do. Perhaps even more than Brand New Day but time will tell. White Flame is up there with IDZ for me. Road Of Resistance is an amazing live song but I don't revisit the studio version often. Arkadia is amazing but White Flame fixes the ONE issues I had with Arkadia. We got that "one more high note" at the end that I felt was missing from Arkadia. I was really happy when that hit.

Coworker metal paired with popular metal acts (Poppy, Spiritbox, STP, Bloodywood). The music is a bit corny, especially when they're a group marketed at weebs where they don't name the writers of the music.
|
| |
I mean, they do name the writers if you look at the credits. They use stage names for a lot of them but they've been using most of the same writers from the very beginning. So they're pretty much babymetal's team, no different from any other band using stage names.

Kawaii is one of the worst songs I've heard all year. That's some k-pop level garbage. Algorism and White Flame are good though.

Kawaii definitely took some time to grow on me, and I don't know if I would have given it that time if I wasn't re-listening multiple times for the review. I really like it now. Like I said, it feels like a spiritual successor to xBxMxCx.

I dislike that song as well so... rap-core is just not it

Ha ha. Then I totally understand. I am not generally a fan of any kind of rap-core, but BMC is an exception (and this now). The one I don't like is the nu metal Bloodywood collab. That one never grew on me.

Thought this was rather bland outside of Sunset Kiss and the closer.

Add it to the pile of disappointments this year. Actually crazy how many albums I was looking forward to underwhelmed me

Thank you! As an update, the only songs I really come back to are the three Babymetal solo songs (which is crazy to have to specify on their own album) and the Electric Callboy song. Again, the rest are good (except Bloodywood) but I only listen to them if they come on when shuffling through my music.

Good review and I get the criticism. But "Babymetal travels the world/universe and meets new friends" is the theme/lore they were going for, yeah? Which to each their own liking the collabs or not. Honestly, they could have even saved the three Babymetal only tracks (which are all great) for another release while doing a couple more collabs or just leaving it as a collab EP.

The theme & lore of the band and each album is quirky Babymetal being quirky, but that facet of the band has never interested me. I'm just interested in the music, and the theme/lore can be whatever as long as it isn't to the detriment of the music. It's kind of the same thing I was talking about with Song 3 where the '3' theme taking such precedence kind of diminished what could have been a better song.
Again, I do like most of the collabs, but not as much as I would have appreciated some solo Babymetal tracks instead. My biggest gripe is really that they want us to be okay with the collabs (a few over a year old already) taking the place of a legit new Babymetal release. It feels lazy.
