hmmm after weeks of listens i think i've settled on this album being... good! but not great
for a purposely hook-less album, lorde does a great job still keeping things catchy and interesting... but jim-e stacks' production is utterly sauceless most of the time.

also, def a me problem here, but i find lorde's persona here a little grating after moving to the big city and being surrounded by a lot more people like them (clearly well off private college types that spew the same sorta blunt self help fueled tmi lorde is serving here... like i've known you for 30mins bruh chill). lorde is a bit more artful with it of course.

lol, agreed on the last part, although it's not that grating to me in lorde's case.
the mastering on this is... interesting. i watched the glastonbury performance, in which everything pops a lot more and the samples are way more abrasive. i'm wondering what could've been, knowing that the stems are quite layered and involved, but i can't for the life of me hear half of what's put on track.
album's still in heavy rotation, tho! this really hit for me

This was probably the most forgettable and inoffensive album I heard this year.
