They ain't wrong, though the review didn't mention hunting. Male lions can still attack.
Unlike Josh, I look back fondly on that era of core, but these guys sound derivative in a bad way. You can sound myspace-era without flat-out copying styles and riffs.

I kind of like the call backs to other bands. Myspace era bands were copying/ripping each other off all the time to be fair. I get the argument against it tho

Idk I feel like all of these bands are copying styles nowadays. Can't really sound original playing this style of music unless you're doing something completely off the wall. I feel what you mean for sure though.

damn this has some riffs straight up plagiarized from allegiance lol
idk this is just a dull and derivative copy of the era. definitely haven't heard a revival band that comes close to the actual feel of the era, this has the aesthetics but not the songwriting chops or pure fun. vocals are p boring too. where are the highs? where's the mosh? it's not bad just eh. just listen to the good stuff from back then. listen to salt the wound instead.

I thought the Phobia breakdown was more of a homage than anything. Seemed quite intentional

All of these bands rip other bands off though. I get the complaint but it makes no difference to me lol. If it bangs, it bangs and this bangs HARD.

Hardcore and metal bands have been ripping off riffs since the 80s to be fair
For deathcore specifically one example that sticks out is In Coalesce with Fear and Filth by Carnifex and Hematodrosis by With Blood Comes Cleansing have the exact breakdown and were less than one year apart

just heard those albums so many times it instantly jumps out. there is so much you can do with deathcore and choosing to rehash allegiance just ain't doing it for me. especially when that album is peak.

I get way more ASP/HSB than I do ABRB here tbh but I could see it.

yeah all shall perish too for sure, a lot of those early cali bands had a similar sound. i definitely think highs on this would add to it a bunch. just found it monotonous. cool gutturals tho.

I wouldn't mind some high screams either tbh. But man this one is just so damn fun to me. Love the breakdown placement. Love the brutal melodic riffs. Just a damn good time.

I have no idea why they stopped doing highs, the EP before this had them and is better for it. I do think this album is sick as hell though, I was anticipating it's release and it mostly delivered. I really love myspace revival lol
