Thinking this is another classic. Absolutely floored.

Is there any point in checking this out if I didn't like Aethiopes?
|
| |

Maps may be a better starting point tho?

really glad he's leaning into the dark/unsettling tones on this one, very intense but loving it so far

I feel like I'll get crucified for this but i don't love the production on this album as much as some of his other projects. Still at least a 4 just on the strength of the bars alone. Idk. Hard to rate. Think it might need more time to sink in.

GOAT

I find this extremely hard to rate. Clearly brilliant, but can't really be judged by conventional music standards. Imagine putting any song off this on a playlist.

Imagine saying an (objectively good) album is hard to rate because you can’t put a song from it on a playlist
Snagged the surprise drop for Gowillog today, an accompanying piece fully produced by August Fanon featuring remixes of tracks from this and Billy’s back catalogue, plus new songs from the two of them, and a full length film. Billy heads get amongst it

why rate music in the first place... just don't do it. I go by a "liked/disliked" binary system, myself.

"Imagine saying an (objectively good) album is hard to rate because you can’t put a song from it on a playlist"
Separate statements, boss.
This is a challenging album. I liked it. Would I consider it a classic, or revisit it frequently? No, flatly. I haven't rated it because it seems silly to compare it to more conventional albums using the same scale; it's unfair to both parties.
A binary system probably leads to more genuine enjoyment. Otherwise, it quickly becomes homework.
