I do agree that I'm not sure Sammy is the best vocalist for this but that's nitpicking to me

Man, this was a bummer. First 3 albums are an insane run. Shame they didn’t blow up during that era of the band.

Backloaded af but the back half gets me good

It’s got some parts but there’s not a song that I enjoy all the way through. I can also hear the lyrics a little too well… ugh

as someone who often listens to metalcore for the lyrics (relatability just seemed higher) that part does not bother me

Used to like this band but their last few years have totally put me off them in general, just bleh

Yep. I started to see it coming with Eternal Forward Motion. Some really good tracks on there but Conquering was just butt rock with screams, and this is even worse.
I’m so bummed that if these guys ever tour the US is gonna be off the back of this bullshit. Not even worth going tbh
|
| |
Decent album but these guys peaked during Eternal Forward Motion imo.

Another promising UK core band sells out to try and make it big, a tale as old as time

I just want riffs man is that too much to ask
Throw in clean choruses and all that bullshit in there idgaf but good god these are some of the most half assed riffs I’ve heard all year

Eternal Forward Motion and Dying Sun are tied for best for me. I listened to Conquering once and never revisited. I’m gonna need Renounced to come back now for my UK core fix.

Riffs mean nothing when there's no song structure to go along with them (not saying early ETS is structureless, just a reply to the "only thing that matters in metal/core is riffs" thing)

Check out Vower they have the vocalist of Palm Reader

Rolo Tomassi firmly holds the crown of “Best UK core band that drastically changed their sound without dumbing it down”

Rolo has only gotten better since the change of sound. Grievances to where they're at now has been nothing but spectacular. Astrea is great too but the production bothers me a lot on it.
|

I still don’t love that last rolo as much as time will die or grievances tbh

Me either but it’s still pretty fuckin great. Even at the time I said Time Will Die felt kinda like a “where do we go from here?” moment and the answer was… just a lesser version of Time Will Die.
Still a damn good record tho

Idk this record does hit for me, Justine's vocals are as fierce as ever, Sammy's whatever as a singer but it doesn't completely sully the experience, the drums still slap, the guitars make sense for the songs, it's just a different style and I feel like the new direction works. It's a bit like how the last Pupil Slicer and Dying Wish records worked for me, but those two are stronger examples. ETS being in the same category as Dying Wish is not bad company imo, and this did more for me than Spiritbox

This band used to be good. The first song gave me a bit of hope but after that it's only downhill.
Also, Warmth is their best record by far IMO
