seriously how does a DR2 get past customs on a major band's release in 2025 jesus christ
and nash i guess i'm just really easy to please when it's an act I like, and the last two were a lot more accessible than this

I can see redeeming qualities here or there, but it’s largely completely overshadowed by the shit wave that is the rest

tbh when a band changes style the first thing i do is, instead of comparing to what they did before, compare to other bands playing the style they've moved to. in the realm of industrial-rock this is fairly enjoyable to me when I try to ignore that it's the same band that was doing metalcore in the 2000s. When it was Erase Me I was comparing it to Breaking Benjamin to decide which one I liked more since they were closer aligned sound-wise than Erase Me and Disambiguation/LITSOS/DTGL.
i like to see myself as genre-agnostic/genre-abolitionist, where idc if you change your style I just want to like what you do in that pivot. ulver went from black metal to electronic and they did great in both, so i like to be forgiving when it comes to crass genre pivots.

I adore BB. Modern Underoath is abysmal lol

at the time, i felt erase me was doing more experimental and interesting things than ember. while ember has grown on me, it still doesn't compare to something like dear agony, dark before dawn or phobia imo. erase me has worn down a bit, but I still love No Frame lol

I have no drive to spend time on listening to any of their new stuff

I hate to say this because Underoath are one of my favourite bands from my teenage years, but I really wish they hadn't reformed. Ø (Disambiguation) would've been the perfect swansong album for them.

"Like, if the solid parts aren’t maintained across a full song"
lol i did drop this into audacity and chop out most of the radio rock choruses from tracks 1-9 (and axed teeth altogether) so nearly every song before vultures is a minute or two long which is hilarious to me. like shame is literally only the verses and the breakdown for example
to your point, actual work lmao

I think I'm also not nearly as averse to radio rock hooks. Only if they're especially bad or not catchy.

Is this really that bad? I haven’t heard anything from them since whatever album came after DTGL
