Best since dead reflection. Living and recording in Joshua tree seems to have yielded some inspiration but I just wish it was more dynamic. I know I could hold out for part 2 being just that but I think I’d wind up disappointed

Best since dead reflection for certain. Couldn’t believe we got even a mild return to form I thought they were donezo

i forgot they tracked this in joshua tree, sweet
makes me secretly hope that lp 2 is some u2 joshua tree b side shit where they use those resources to indulge in all their trippiest and most immersive tendencies. wishing for this band to be as ambitious as 80s u2 is probably the most delusional thought thats ever crossed my mind though lmao

But we’ve seen glimpses of it before! I obstinately hold out hope that pink moon will be shoegazey experimental post hardcore with an epic scale.

true, for all the derision thrown at dead reflection these days it does embrace some more textural influences here and there that i dig and was hoping theyd build on later. that didnt happen lol but

"Ok not gonna lie this is hitting a nostalgic nerve but its also kinda making me cringe hearing this kind of music/lyrics from dudes in their late 30s lol. I'm torn but like it rules kinda FUCK lmao."
Try mid-40s. Lmao.
This is another mostly forgettable release from them for me. Tired of these annoying Linkin Park/BMTH choruses but at least Mercy Mercy, A Little Fight, and Stress were solid.

Mercy Mercy actually goes hard as shit

Looking back, not only are their albums hit or miss across tracks, I’m also noticing for me it’s almost a recurring theme of bad/average album, then great album, bad/average, then great lol

hm
debut + waterfront - great
arrivals + shipwreck - okay
rescue + wind shifts - great
i am alive + dead reflection - okay
drown + misery made me - bad
this - okay
so yeah kinda agreed except when it was time for a cycle of solid material again they instead dropped their two worst albums

Quite an inconsistent band yea

@Onion Shipwreck >>> Rescue, but generally agree on everything else!

I'm with your ratings, onion, granted their first two are multiple tiers above their other albums for me.

rescue forever slept on, i actually like it more than wind shifts lmao. just a bunch of ass beaters or catchy bangers. when they get in their concept mode bag they get hella corny and its made shipwreck in particular age atrociously for me outside of a great fire. wind shifts is like 70% awesome but even it has some major lows emblematic of that for me
that said live to kill is bad lol
