I personally think this is one of the most over rated bands of all time. Some of the earlier albums are ok, to me certainly overrated in the metalcore genre. This album is no different. The musicianship is ok. Clean vocals are unlistenable. There's nothing here to make you want to play it again.

They definitely are. Metalcore wouldn't have reached the level of popularity it has now without them and they incorporated the more melodic elements in a tasteful and new way for the time. Some of those ripple effects I can do without but KsE has always ruled.

Acting like Killswitch are “overrated” when they almost single-handedly codified melodic metalcore as a genre is a bit of a reach imho. Seinfeld Isn’t Funny trope in action.

Anyway this is good! Need a few more listens to judge but Jesse sounding great as usual, and I’m glad we’re doing tambourine tracks in choruses again. Not surprised to hear there are some SD outtakes on here. Also the mix sounds stronger than the first single - maybe the YouTube compression was fucking with the sound of that one when it first dropped?

SD outtakes on here really add a different feeling to the formula, we know they love being melodic so I think them embracing the heavier stuff is cool

If anything this band lacks a “oh shit this is insane” album/moment. They’re just consistently great. But also agree they were quintessential/influential af and to say anything otherwise is silly

I feel like this album is backloaded with some of the best material they've written. Aftermath is the only snoozer for me.

“Honest to god, KSE by the numbers is kinda okay by me, considering how many Octane-core bands dominate the scene. Not that I dislike Octane-core or modern metalcore djent, but it's refreshing to see something classic sounding”

AGREED.

All modern metalcore sounds the same to me.

Aftermath, Discordant Nation and The Fall of Us are peak, the drumming REALLY stands out, I don't think Killswitch is known for blasts that crazy but those ripped

Gotta be honest, I love Adam D but this band really does nothing for me without Howard lol. Jesse just isn't my cup of tea.
