Band has always been a constant.
One of the best.

agreed, prob the best post rock band. most of the others i used to love i can't bring myself to listen to anymore. even sigur ros' stuff doesn't hit the same at 35

Couldn’t get into either of them

I’m 30 and untitled 8 still hits me like a truck.
I just think this band is pretty constant. Though not my fav post rock band but as far as the mid tempo variety goes they’re fairly consistent except for this and Rave Tapes.

Valtari and especially Kveikur blow everything ‘recent’ Mogwai have done out of the water, no contest
weird comparison for various reasons but Kveikur would be the second best Mogwai album overall in fact (after CODY, not the other one)
|

don't get me wrong, untitlted 1, 3, and 8 are all still fantastic songs, sigur ros on the whole just doesn't hit the same. i remember discovering them back in hs when i heard saeglopur, which was prob my favourite track for like a solid 2 years, but i just don't feel the same way listening to them now. same with hammock, which is a huge bummer because they have some of the best songs in the genre, they just don't hit me the same anymore

I agree that Sigur doesn’t quite hit the same but they were pretty much my fave band at one point
nowadays I’d rather listen to Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, Slint, early Labradford, The For Carnation, Tortoise and (not recent) GY!BE than all except the one Mogwai album (and a lot of Sigur doesn’t get played much either tbh. I used to love 65dos but they’ve fallen off even more dramatically)

"Valtari and especially Kveikur blow everything ‘recent’ Mogwai have done out of the water, no contest"
midnight flit alone is better than anything on either of these albums, by a huge margin
|
| |
"nowadays I’d rather listen to Bark Psychosis, Talk Talk, Slint"
on this we agree. i'm more geared towards this side of post rock now
|

post rock as an initial idea was so much better than post rock ‘the genre’ - once it became entrenched in specific repeatable tropes it was waaaaaaaay less interesting, essentially. I mean even a band like Seefeel is technically ‘post rock’
first wave influences live on through various projects and bands latter than that timeline, but the point stands in my mind

Hammock, Talk Talk, Bark Psychosis, Sigur Ros, Caspian, Mogwai, EITS, Godspeed, Jakob, even some of the “sound allies.” I just love this genre and style to death man.

Honestly post rock is a special interest for me I’m a huge nerd about it. The autism might have something to do with it but I just loooove stuff that relaxes me while also filling me with sappy shimmery emotion.

everyone needs that special internet
if I was to harness my neurodivergence in such a way, post-rock just wouldn’t be my first choice I guess, at least not for quantity of go-to material
There’s so much chill stuff out there in ambient, dream pop, minimal techno, house, downtempo, trip-hop, chamber music / folk, soft jazz etc. that my post-rock selections will remain mercifully small, lol
drone and minimalism too, but I really don’t know much about those genres. There’s just so much out there to discover that could occupy the same space / purpose I guess. But each to their own

post-rock just hits the right spot for me, especially piano-driven with ambient guitars

Yeah props to you Demon. I’m gonna plug Suffocate For Fuck Sake also. One of the most overlooked and underrated bands in the world and they have post rock esque sections kinda like Godspeed that are godly. More a combo of hardcore, post rock, post metal. Their own thing.

You've been wrong before but this is the wrongest you've been.
