Be'lakors been growing more on me and NeO is growing off for me tbh. Muzz does do a lot of melo death

Muzz, you say you never agree with me yet our ratings for this album are literally the same checkmate belasnore

Also as much as I wanna like the title track here it rips off jotun too blatantly and to a lesser degree shades of dead eternity breakdown

both of this band's albums are really overproduced, and that's a big reason why they don't have the charm of the 90s melodeath records in my eyes

I could say that about pretty much every modern metal album. A lot of those 80s and 90s metal albums have that charm because of the production

I don't know why but both albums from this band have felt so bland and boring to me. They're definitely going for that 2000's melodeath era sound and it's pretty spot on but something is just missing and makes it sound really uninspired...

Also, as much as I love Mikael Stanne, his vocals over the last 10+ years have definitely gotten more monotonous and it definitely doesn't help this album. His performances on The Gallery and Damage Done were his peak in my opinion, but obviously getting older affects things...
|
| |
not sure if it's a hot take but Stanne's vocals on The Gallery are by far the worst thing about that record for me. they're what keep me from coming back because he just goes full ham there

I actually like his cleans tbh

Again, so many songs borrow elements of previous work. You got the Pinball Map song, the Dead God in Me song, and so many melodies/harmonies from Whoracle peppered throughout. I definitely caught some Only For the Weak on one song. Good stuff
|
| |
Mikael's vocals on The Gallery rule, as does everything else on that album.

You should listen to Mikael's gothic rock band then - Cemetery Skyline. Surprisingly enjoyable debut album

I was about to say this, but with an entirely different take LOL.
But thank the Lord for Cemetery Skyline, that keeps Mikael from singing cleans here and in DT.

How'd I never hear about Cemetery Skyline? I'll have to peep that too, thanks i have never understood the issue some fans have with more clean singing in this style but maybe I'm just weird
