some bands only have stuff on streaming due to their label publishing it. whirr might have had a change in label staffing (or maybe they changed labels, or went full self-release with this? idk)

there's also a handful of artists that have chosen not to put new albums on streaming sites, which builds up anticipation (e.g. "why isn't this streaming??") which might drive a bit more traffic to bandcamp or wherever. and then once the initial stages of the album cycle die down a bit, and they finally drop it on streaming, that also gets people excited. in a sort of two-stage release process. idk. just a theory

Whirr are kinda known for being pseudo-edgy contrarians so it might not even be that deep. they might just not have bothered, and that could be all there is to it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

fyi it took em like months to drop their last album on major streaming platforms so this one will probably appear there at some point as well

That's a good point, Jots. I hadn't considered that artists have to find ways to prolong the album hype cycle now that release schedules are typically more immediate and people move on so soon.

Honestly gonna take a lot to top this this year for me. And the first two tracks combined and running together is just everything, their best moment no doubt

It is. This album is just so fuckin lovely. At first I didn’t think it was gonna top Feels Like You and now I feel like it may. I’ve listened nearly non stop since it dropped. And I still listen to FLY all the time too

That was what made me give this a 3,5 instead of a 3,0. Maybe this album will grow on me, who knows... Hornygaze requires to be in the mood.
