This is utterly fascinating analysis of an album whose cover is a face being punched by a fist.

"Not gonna lie, most of this review reads like those news reports claiming violent videogames and heavy metal were the cause for Columbine."
I mean that had no basis in reality, this specifically has the aggro sound that emboldens the worst of its fanbase to go and harass people who are "weaker".
I could've maybe given the benefit of the doubt had there not been specific examples of Anselmo being a turgid human being and fans harassing other bands simply for expressing their dislike for Pantera.
Oh yeah and to @Jurtz: considering Anselmo was doing "white pride" speeches in the 90's I'm pretty sure that also factors into the sociological context of this album. I don't think it's unfair when even the band members have partaken in such toxic things even back then.

"Aggro sound" is a very broad statement, especially when we're talking about metal. People who are already dicks can really be set off by a lot of stimuli. When you're predisposed towards violence, your mind will gravitate to it regardless, what you listen to is more of a consequence.
Anselmo did do some very questionable stuff, there's no denying that. But as for the fanbase, a lot of big-name bands (especially metal bands) have a fair share of asshole fans, that's just inevitable.

I think in specifically Pantera's case, it's hard to avoid that connotation as time goes on. I used to listen when I was younger and didn't hear "angry bully" out of it, but tbh they had the unfortunate consequence of getting caught in the crossfire when I realized I hated Five Finger Death Punch

Hey if it works for ya, fair enough! I remembered in like 2013 I still liked them but a close friend got me hooked on stuff like BMTH n the rest was history and I never really looked back

fwiw i don't think anyone lesser for listening to this, especially if it's simply a case of wanting fun aggressive groove music, i get it, you don't wanna think about social implications or anything you just wanna bang your head to rhythms that jive right
it's just a sound that at this stage, if I'm in the mood for music this overtly in your face and aggro (which i almost never am, i like more atmospheric and moody shit) I'm bumping some left-leaning SxE NY Hardcore type shit, least I know my values will be respected in that case more or less.

Thats fair then no worries Spec
Sometimes I wish I still felt that nostalgia but years have caused it to fade away completely. I don't feel the same way I used to. Cowboys I still feel a little bit on a few songs at least. Tho their insane fans ruined the Domination breakdown for me.

What’s your go to left-leaning SxE NYHC band

EARTH CRISIS is the only answer
