Sowing - very glad you’re enjoying it so far. I’ve been reading your reviews for many years now (since I was in college around 2012). I’ve found so many bands and records thanks to those reviews. Big shout out to you

Thanks!
I liked this album a lot. It seems to be influenced by a lot of the bands I enjoyed listening to growing up (and still do). Early highlights for me are Spiral, Genocider, Alabaster, and The Long Dark Bright. Excited to spin this again soon and dive a little deeper.

Thank you so much for checking it out. It means a lot. I am thrilled you enjoyed the record! We really tried to expand our core sound into as many directions we could while still sounding like us and I like to think we did a halfway decent job while writing some cool songs someone will like. Again, very glad you enjoyed it and hopefully you’ll find more to like upon diving a little deeper too

Yeah, I just scratched the surface with the first listen (haven't even delved into lyrics). Chances are there's a lot more to be gleaned from this than what I heard the first time around. The influences I did hear right off the bat (Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Thrice) are actually what drew me in so quickly, but it's not like this thing is derivative. You definitely have your own sounds going on. That guitar melody during the first minute of Alabaster combined with the blind turn tempo change right afterwards immediately struck me and might be one of my favorite instrumental moments of 2024. Whoever came up with that should be recognized.

Man that means a lot of you to say that. I definitely feel like lyrics had a bigger emphasis on this release than our stuff in the past and I feel that our vocalist, Lyle, does have a great handle on words. So hopefully you’ll enjoy what you dig into.
But yeah, big time those bands (Brand New, Thrice, Turnover, Title Fight, Failure, Nirvana, and Manchester Orchestra were probably some of the biggest main ones for us). “Alabaster” was mainly a demo I had and we took it apart, piece by piece, to try as many things as we could to see what excited us the most. Our bassist was a huge part of that. That’s kinda how we landed on the final version, along with the Donnie Darko sample.

Yo! I didn’t even check that. Super rad. I’m stoked you dig the record man. Honestly, that’s half the reason we kept the record on the shorter side, to kinda incite relistens…well and studio costs being high lol

Really enjoyed this. Definitely filled a void that I've been longing to fill from bands like Gleemer, Basement, or Modern Color.
Great review @artificialbox
