AOTY most likely (either this or SUMAC currently). Phenomenally well-balanced and consistent journey. Beautifully done.
I’m working on a few dark horses. I also need to revisit the early front-runners: i.e. the Gibbons / Lenker / Scarcity triumvirate to see how they hold up (but I think they will stay as ‘2nd tier’ when all is said and done).

Current Top 10. Lots of other stuff hanging out at the fringes, however, that could easily be subbed in before the end of the year. Julia Holter, Xiu Xiu, Armand Hammer, meth, Basque, this, Space Camp, Maruja, Robber Robber, Adversarial...
P good year for music I'd say !

You might like the Hammok & Shiroishi records. Not sure you'd dig Fashion Tips... it's a toss up. You would probably not like Friko or Ogbert. I'm assuming those are the ones you don't recognize.

Ooh. Fashion Tips sounds intriguing. Hammok is ON the list. You’re probably right about Friko and Ogbert. No idea about that Shiroishi
It was mostly those ones, aye

this is absolutely top 3 for me. been spending some time with it this morning and am so floored with how these songs gradually open themselves up in so many surprising ways while still feeling really seamlessly put together

I realise you (likely) did this on purpose, but I sure showed you as I have already peeked 3. and 8. (but not because you baited me into it, I promise... hmm).

Hammok and Friko are obvs among the better phcx and wet-blanked CSH lofi indie albums of the year (respectively), but I didn't find either had much staying power

It seems like every single year at least one markedly 'indie' album of either the 1. lo-fi bedroom rock, 2. modernized psych-pop, or 3. tangential emo/MWE variety inexplicably sinks its teeth into me to the point where I find myself singing the chorus(es) ad infinitum in my head and randomly playing air drums at my desk, those types of tracks bear repeating for weeks (sometimes even months) to an almost nauseating degree but these days I just succumb to them. Friko's latest is THAT album this year - at least three (possibly four) of the tracks have 50+ individual scrobbles, too fearful to verify the real numbers but last.fm tells no lies.
Last year it was Big Blood's FIRST AID KID, year before Sweet Pill's WHERE THE YEAR IS, year before Coral's CORAL ISLAND, year before that Illuminati Hotties mixtape, and this just continues back as far as the eye can see. Borderline fetish at this point.

Okay I actually looked it up because morbid curiosity got the best of my. My hip-fire estimate was surprisingly close. From Friko's latest album:
• Crimson to Chrome → 77 scrobbles
• Crashing Through → 55 scrobbles
• Get Numb to It → 49 scrobbles
• Where We've Been → 45 scrobbles
Those actually make up FOUR OF MY FIVE top scrobbled tracks for the past 365 days, the only hiccup being Vampire Weekend's "Capricorn" which not only insists upon itself, but also reminds me that VW's revival record could also almost quality for this phenomenon I regularly experience.
