“Matty Mullins has been fucking terrible since like 2011 wtf is he doing in my Anberlin”
Should be the summary lol
But I’m with Rowan I may just check out on this band entirely.

I was excited to see a new anberlin album in my new releases thread and then a bit miffed its just the 2 eps and then very mad to see Matthew Mullins is now the vocalist. Wtf?

This release has me listening to never take friendship personal constantly. I really think all you need is that and cities

Nah cuz Devotion is the best rock album of the 2010s and their best album. Cities and NTFP are legendary albums of the old times. Devotion is God.

Every album/EP is either good or amazing, except this (still love the two EPs tho)

I don’t think Cities has aged well. It has some good tracks, particularly the bookends, but a lot of the others come across as sappy and lame to me now. Much prefer their last two albums and think the writing matured a bit. Only two tracks from this so far: Circles, Lacerate, and Banshee and I thought they were all solid. I guess I have the advantage of having not heard the EPs before this dropped. Bit perplexed by the low scores, unless the less is significantly worse

Cities did not age wonderfully and if this was released as the below link it would be better:

The cash grab feeling of releasing two EPs as an LP, along with the two pointless Matty Mullins songs, is why everyone is rating this poorly.

More specifically, the " farewell" live performances of never take friendship, personal and cities are by far my favorite output from the band. I don't have strong feelings about the later material one way or the other. It never quite grabbed me

I just realized my personal playlist of Silverline and Convinced also has Animals as the first track lol

Two Graves is the only acceptable opener

I'd probably still enjoy this album with the Matty songs if it was all new and not a blatant cash grab. I would arrange the songs the following way:
1. Two Graves
2. Decoder
3. Nothing Lost
4. Walk Alone
5. Lacerate
6. Banshee
7. Body Language
8. Animals
9. Seven
10. Asking
11. Circles
12. Nothing More
With that said, I will stick with the combined EP's tracklist and pretend this doesn't exist.

Animals is one of their worst songs, extremely cringeworthy stuff
