need to give this another go, I just wasn’t in love with the sonic palate. A lot of glossy sheen and not much bite. I understand it’s purposefully done but the appeal eludes me somewhat

also think this would’ve sounded way “weirder” back in the 90s/00s whereas now it almost sounds unremarkable (given the awareness of bands like VBE, Dodheimsgard & Enslaved + what’s spawned from their sphere of influence etc.)

Probably taking nonsense, just a thought

These guys have never been "overly oproggy" imo. They have just done a fairly simple sound very competently if that makes sense. I think I see where you're coming from though demon.

"Better than Black Medium Current"

No way, but this is really good too. Maybe could end up on par with it idk yet.

This is 1000 times better than Black Medium Current for me. Never got the hype for that one. I prefer most of Dodheimsgard's other stuff over it tbh.

Dod in general has more bite and edge. Still this is pretty awesome and more smoothy melodic. Also that bm turn in the opener is pretty sick (f.e.)

sorry but this is nowhere near Black Medium Current what are you people smoking out here

and I kinda hate that vocalist from Dodheimsgard too but that record blows this out by every metric except vocals

BMC is no more than decent for me tbh. Like its cool but its also way too long. I dig pretty much all of Dodheimsgard's other stuff more lol.

sad to hear it Hawks, I'm quite the opposite with the Dodders, but I can agree that BMC is too long and would be better served if they cut it short by 10ish minutes. I still feel like the vast majority of it is really special, where this is just competent and cool metal, but I'm not hearing anything special

The BMC comparison strikes me as a bit strained or superficial to me (look, two bm records about space!). BMC, like DHG's previous work is unhinged and demands a lot of its audience - albeit a bit less than Umbra Omega. This is just bm spacey prog, at least to me.

BMC too long, agree

BMC better than this, agree

But common trying to say the only resemblance is 2 bm albums about space is, as we say in my country, throwing sand to eyes XD

If someone likes this, there is no guarantee they will be able to make it past the opener of BMC.
