It is a nice change of pace away from their normal doom sludge for sure.

Put this on for my gf and she absolutely loves it too. Good evening of music between this and the new Beth Gibbons LP! Spoiled for tunes this year.. like, the worse the world gets the better the music becomes.

I really love thou, but they can sound a little samey at times. This probably won’t be my favorite of theirs if I really sit down and think about it but yeah it’s more immediately enjoyable than anything they’ve ever made imo.
and Full of Hell + Thou should be a great time, saw em both open for Converge a couple of years back and they were both just as good live.

“My guess is they where either super pissed off by something or wanted to branch out more and appeal to a wider audience” - An interview I believe it was said they were getting introspective about their career and their influences and origins

you just got into them recently. they honestly write sludge better than most bands and it lies in the details.

@veldin - more like it feels like they haven’t gone towards this approach as a full LP and had these moments more thrown unto the singles/EPs/compilations. They almost didn’t write Magus as it turned out and had to take the time to not write Heathen part 2. Plus Bryan and Mitch in an interview basically said they wanted to not do “pretty” riffs and we got this tasty swampass of a record.
