didn't realize it was a bonus track, yeah that's dumb. at this point i couldn't imagine that album without that song as the closer

@johnny all I remember is that I was amazed I joined the band having next to no musical talent, but none of the other members were really playing music either, they were all just singing opera while doing wild circus stuff like rolling around in a German Wheel. I hope my expectations are met when I see them next month

still need to check this, but it is long and the day isn't

The thing about this music, is that when appreciated, it slows time

Crazy good write-up Johnny.

Never heard of this band before, I've always seen the name floating around but never checked. It's pretty cool so far.

Not only is 2024 the year of the return of The Museum, but also: the first year in 221 years that both Broods XIX & XIII of cicadas will emerge. Strangely enough, The Museum specified this year's event in their song 'The 17-Year Cicada', which is the name given to Brood XIII, in 2004. I thought this was an interesting maybe-coincidence.

Its kind of annoying how good this is... like I don't want my house to sound like a circus every fricken day but here we are

they played S.P.Q.R. live (which I guess is a This Heat song) and Dan used some crazy one-string wiggly pedal instrument during that song that he just calls "The Wiggler"

While the recording sounds like a SGM record (some amazing songs, more filler and self-indulgence than not), the cuts they played live were fantastic and meshed pretty seamlessly with the older ones.

Absolute all time band live.

Caught them on the recent tour with Kayo Dot as openers (real reason I went) having known of them, and it was an absolutely transcendent experience. This band goes so fuckin hard live it's ridiculous.

After a few listens (and seeing them live), "Old Grey Heron" is the standout here for me and is a good representative of the record as a whole - also great that they let Dan sing lead on a whole song.

This is so similar to Unexpect it makes me think one was directly spawned by the other

some similarities perhaps, but they take these elements in very different directions (not to mention I hear no melodic / symphonic black metal influence with SGM). From the admittedly little I remember of Unexpect (and I'm yet to hear this specific album, but heard the other SGM offerings) this band are infinitely better at creating an engrossing atmosphere, not to mention spacing. Their big moments actually hit and are well earnt / placed

Unexpect are guilty of attempting everything all at once, for me
