Unfocused how lol

It's so much more focused than the debut

I haven't listened to the debut so if its more unfocused than this faux intellectual navel gazing I'd probably just rate it like a 1.5

Debut is less focused, possibly has a higher ratio of immediate rock ‘bangers’ but then who needs that from Radiohead-lite in the 2020s?

A lot sounds like AMSP meets Amnesiac. Teleharmonic is solid, could've been an Anima outtake. Other than the singles, my favorite is Read the Room just for that second half. Under Our Pillows kinda has a similar structure, and I like that one's bridge and ending section too.

"Bipolar"!
aptly enough I always thought it was B-tier for its album (which you'd most likely fw to a decent extent)

Bipolar is an A- in the context of that album, although solid B- Blonde Redhead, probably idk actually

I need to do the run through (again!) with the context of having now heard all their shit to properly evaluate. Remember enjoying it tho

…and to confirm, yeah I can definitely hear it - just imagine a bit more menacing crunch in the guitars and more suitably ominous vox or something. Actually don’t take my word for it, just CHECK Blonde Redhead (can this be a thing now?!)

Bipolar is excellent BR, quite sonic youth-ey, but I don’t mind it at all.

I wouldn't have thought of the comparison with Read the Room, but yeah, the guitar work is definitely up there. Still don’t know what I think about Wall of Eyes tbh, I barely noticed it at first play, but subsequent listens were more rewarding. But I still find their debut to be more exciting. More uneven perhaps, but variety does it good.

I’d place the debut a fraction over this one yes

It sounds like radiohead, this just goes to show how little effort Thom can put in to impress people, just copy and paste the same shit all your career and call it a day.

In a way I'm content at my disillusionment with this iteration of Thom & co.

it's the next stage in my character development arc possibly spearheaded when I stopped liking every copycat death metal album because it 'riffs ahrd m/' despite adding little in the way of creativity... not stylistically relevant of course, more the acceptance of comfortable mediocrity due to familiarity (and in this case, nostalgia)

He has a mostly electronic based solo career and does soundtrack work with a lot of instrumental ambient pieces.

How much variety do you want from him? :/

This band is so obviously 'the continuation of Radiohead in the only way it could now exist' (people get older, not everyone wants to be in a band in their fifties or sixties, life happens etc) so to criticise this for sounding close to a new Radiohead album is missing the point.

A lot of people will claim their most favourite element of an album like 'Amnesiac' is the incorporation of experimental, jazzy and 'outré elements for a rock band' and then maybe dismiss this album after two listens - this album is actually a lot more natural, light touch and believable in how it works in very similar ideas and instrumentation.

I dunno, this is a pretty decent Radiohead-adjascent release and less retread'y than I first thought.
