I think I've just come to the conclusion that I hate when white dudes do funk music

anyway I'm glad they're back but this easily their worst album. played it way too safe, Impeccable Beast is a better version of this entire sound for them. couple songs I'll playlist tho at least

Really don't like this after more listens. Better way is the only song worth a damn

i like most of this but i agree it was a bit too safe. Pink Lemonade had a few cuts i didnt like but it was so much more interesting throughout

Lock & Key is a clear highlight

It might be the best song they've ever written, wow

"damn that was some weak af johnnybait there"

not rly a bit as much as genuine concern for your aptitude for fun and/or naked silliness when it isn't coming from a bunch of nostalgia washups

both sets of lyrics have dorky in-joke cringe to them, but at least these have the decency not to demand earnest interpretation

ahhhhhh Lock & Key is SO BUTTERY AND CATCHY

I very easily see this becoming a new earworm obsession. It's been a long time since I've had one of those.

I love how differently everyone is ranking the tracks too! Lovelash doesn't do much for me, but I love Jaeger Bomb. Agreed My Dearest Kate though, it's nice but feels more like a b-side and not an album closer to me.

After giving it the weekend to digest, I'd rank the songs something like -

S: Better Way, Holy Rush, Lock & Key, Lovelash

A: Primal Sinister, Soft Hell, Fine

B: Jaeger Bomb, Keeper of the Lake, Don Juan Triumphant

C: Absolute Terror Field

D: My Dearest Kate

Get ready for the new Chromeo record!

This album isn't bad, but it's not great either. I wish it was a little catchier, and leaned a little more post-hardcore. There are parts of this where it's straight up white guy R&B, if you like that sort of thing.
