I think the way they alter their sound and flow from one style to the next is strong enough to cover up any note of blandness tbh, second half in particular is a good game changer in that regard.

i thought I'd had my top 10 decided but then this and Svalbard decided to invade by being so damn GOOD, can't even choose between the two!

This smokes Svalbard imo

Nah not even close.

ya opposites. I really want to like Svalbard, and they all seem like nice people, band just does nothing for me
|

I am with Hawks, Svalbard >>>
I am going to give this another spin though on the plane today, hoping it clicks a bit more

tbf they've both got similarities, but this is a distinctly emo/skramz approach. Apples to orange-ish-apples comparison.

Agreed ahrd tbh. I think they're getting compared mostly because of the similar atmospheric bm influences.

Oh yeah the comparison is valid (I made it myself anyways lol) but there's a degree of separation where I don't think you can really stack them verses each other. For my money I think Svalbard is better but this rocks its aesthetic just as well.
Once the second half clicks, it all comes together.

Damn this is good. I've been craving something new like this for a while

The first couple tracks are really good but I like the atmospheric, blackgazey parts way more than the dissonant -core bits

This might have my favorite opening track of the year tbh. Perfect tone setter.
"Lately, I’ve been wishing I could meet you again" sounds like one of those iconic emo opening lines that's gonna age super well as the years go by

Yo this is KZ from the band in question yet again unable to access my account -
Thanks for the kind review. I had a feeling you’d dig this one more.
Second half is definitely where we shine on this IMO. Room of clouds clears.
Next one will continue to have annoying song titles I promise. I have a running list in hand at all times. The title of the next one is already picked and is going to be much longer.
RE: the comment that something is lost from us “cleaning it up” I’m not really sure we did clean it up. We went to the exact same producer at the exact same studio, play much more chaotic stuff, and all my vocals were recorded in ~3 hours. Very very little of Room of Clouds was more than a single pass vocally, really just the first chorus. Certainly respect you not liking it as much - Modern Grotesque certainly is more of a classic Screamo record so will appeal to those senses more - but I think we just wrote bigger songs and it might be translating as more meticulous. It wasn’t though it was still very raw. “It Will Hurt”, “Rue de Noms”, and “Room of Clouds” were actually all written a month before we went to the studio hahaha
Also none of us have still listened to…Departures….?

Cool to see when band members pop in lol. Welcome to the thread! Album’s cool

I tried looking backing to see if I made that comment; my mistake if I did, because this is definitely raw and an aspect that I appreciate. Polished skramz just doesn't really feel right to me.
I'm glad you guys stopped by! And definitely kudos for the vocal performance and the lyrics, I can see this growing over time.
Come down to Columbus some time and let's party?

Oh no someone else did - just enjoying the conversation and figured I could add some context!
We played Cbus last year at Musica. Would love to come back but find more of a DIY spot.
