“ I give the 3 for Lay Low and Options.” [2]

Options is to Calling the Dogs as Ring of Chain is to EIGTH --- the hidden gems on otherwise flat releases.
At this point I'm just banking on Mat's solo stuff to remain solid; Nova was great

and yeah Options is so good too.
Also Mat’s last 3 solo releases have been far more boring than this so idk what you’re talking about honestly

Can't overlook his Amber Park release. One of the best EPs to come out of the past 5 years.
YLLAS also reaaaally grew on me this year - way prefer it to this album.

Even Everybody is Going to Heaven is so much better than this

I’ve always thought EIGTH is super underrated. Still genuinely confused why it was received so poorly.

You know listening back I'm not sure how either. Heaviside is a million times better than anything on here and Glass World

Plus Cement, My Favorite Color, Ten, Weave Me, Ring of Chain….album kicks ass. Usually I can at least understand why something gets poor reviews/ratings even if I disagree, but this one has always puzzled me

I’m like 80% sure I remember mat talking about how the album wasn’t received very well in general, not just this site

Probably bc it was a pretty big departure from Youth. Lot more grungy, Brand New worship-y

there are quite a few flat out uninteresting tracks like Ten, yellow love, favorite color etc

Ten and MFC are uninteresting? Is it Opposite Day and I missed the memo?
I remember people saying it was Brand New worship but there’s literally only one BN album that it could remotely be compared to. So…kind of a lame comparison imo

I also never really got the Brand New comp. Just kinda feels like the 90s

EIGHT is mad underrated, can't really bring myself to listen to this

Didn't know they had a new one. I love this band. Everything they has released has been a huge grower for me. Sometimes they switch things up to their detriment but I thought Glass World was really awesome (Fight Beat being the only wtf creative choice). Even their live stuff seems inconsistent, I've seen videos with great production where the vocalist sounds strained/tired, but when I caught the end of their set at Riot Fest years ago, it was exactly like the album. Blew my mind.
I feel like their body of work will be looked on really well retrospectively, for how much they are willing to try new ideas, they still have a really focused creative aesthetic that most bands never reach.

Been jamming this since my last post, couldn't disagree more with the review, I feel like this is 1.) A return to the As You Please sound, just pumped up with the uptempo grooves of Life In Your Glass World and 2.) This might be their best album.
Big Bloc Party influence here, amazing songwriting, Can't Take it Slow and Options are a couple highlights for me. I love this band but their instrumentation has always been a little on the boring side (not in a bad way, just a factual way) and this their first album where I genuinely find the tones and instrumental interplay to be super interesting.
They also finally wrote an "oddball" song that is awesome with Dogs. Cannot wait to see this tour.

Refreshing to see that someone is enjoying it.
I am unfortunately veering closer to “no need to listen to ever again” territory.
