i like this. the arrangements are occasionally overwrought and I could do without the dissonant interludes, but there's some beautiful, quiet tunes on here. lots to parse, lyrically, too.

Yeah, you said what I was trying to better.
I feel like the 12-ish real songs here are excellent, the rest is a bit gratuitous and adds very little.

Adds to the richness for me.
A proper album.

Perhaps! I don't hate them, they just feel unneeded.

Ooh this is going to click I can just tell. It was already a hot release but it's starting to ignite

Previous Clientele albums have had track lists that have blended a bit too much, somewhat samey, so I think the experimental sections and segues and what have you do wonders here.
Also, some of the material here is ‘typical Clientele’ or even overfamiliar but thanks to the framing it’s not as obvious and not an issue.
This would make for a weird first Clientele album to check out though.
For me this is their best album.

Honestly all their records are great in my opinion... Suburban Light or The Violet Hour are probably their best though. Later albums (like Bonfires on the Heath) are a bit more conventional indie, but still have that special atmospheric touch

This is the first time anything they've released has really grabbed me (although I haven't tried that hard).
I really like this.

"Through The Roses" is very beautiful.

Yeah, that's one of my top tunes here. Almost gets lost in the back half of the tracklist, but absolutely gorgeous. "Stems of Anise" has been growing on me quite a bit as well.

My Childhood is borderline unlistenable though. Feels like I'm stuck in a traffic jam in the heat with no air conditioner and everyone is blaring their horns.

I like the interludes, they give it some edge when it's needed.
Also as soon as I heard this I immediately thought of zak & From Scotland With Love.

Yeah, I think most of the interludes work quite well and add to the grandness of the album - but "My Childhood" is a bit questionable, fairly abrasive and the lyrics are largely repeated in the closing track.

I love the interludes - probably what hooked me into feeling the album to be honest. It's just My Childhood I struggle with...
