Interesting comparison. Will jam some more.

Weird comparison to Bleeding Through. This is leaning much more into death / black metal territory.
Also, this is def better than Pain Remains. But I also don't like the lyrical approach Lorna Shore went with.
Also agree with some of the earlier comments that they could just drop some (or most if not all)o of the breakdowns and their songwriting would be better off.
Don't know She Must Burn but I guess gotta jam that. And wait, what happened with the former vocalist? Some Lorna Shore type being rape-y / sexually abusive towards underage fans type of shit?

yeah p much - there's an instagram account called @survivingmentalcruelty that catalogued a lot of the abuse. it's really horrific stuff so just a heads up if you choose to look into it

It is crazy how much the breakdowns break the flow of almost all songs they are in.
I just dont understand why most of these bands dont try to find a way to include them in a less intrusive way. Outside of the breakdowns, I do pretty much agree it is what Pain Remains wanted to be but just couldnt do that
The Pest one is the most obvious case of it

so many bands in the genre are chasing that to the hellfire viral moment and it's really messing with the pacing of their songs/albums. doesn't have to fit into a 5 min song when you're just gunning for it to fit into a 30 second reaction vid lol

I agree that it’s not even the breakdowns that bother me as much as how they’re incorporated. It needs to flow properly not just “oh we’ve been going for 3 mins now, let’s stop and break down”

that's exactly it - love a good breakdown but hate few things more than a bad one lol

Same. I dont mind breakdowns , even though they are not my favorite because most of the time they are chugging for the sake of chugging, but here they just disrupt the flow so damn much.

I feel like breakdowns are per se fine but they are overused and often it feels like they are a bit misplaced or a song could do well without.
On their last record I enjoyed the songs that wore their black / death metal influence on their sleeves the most.
@mem: Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I am not surprised at this point by how a lot of actors in the -core scene are acting and the type of people they also attract. (My subjective experience as visibly queer person with a lot of -core concerts is also that the people are fucking horrible)

How deathcorey is this

I think breakdowns and some vocal styling aside it's closer to symphonic black metal than it is to deathcore.

Listened to the album a couple of times today. Absolutely love it. Deathcore is an endless sea of familiarity and there’s many bands carry a blackened sword however this band almost feels entirely black metal until the breakdowns hit. Which I don’t mind because I already enjoy deathcore.

This is ok. Too many of the Lorna Shore type breakdowns though which just ruin a few of the songs. I saw someone mention "best deathcore band by a mile". While I prefer this band to Lorna Shore, I just can't for the life of me see how either band touches Shadow of Intent's Reclaimer and Melancholy. For me they are at the top of the tree, a band that understands how to incorporate modest use of breakdowns into their songs that actually complements them.

I really hope that they can evolve the breakdowns enough to make them feel like a cohesive part of their songs on the next album. They're strong writers so it's really weird to see them derail track after track with this shoehorned bullshit.

So what i can gather is this very deathcorey but good for the genre. Probs not for me then. Art is sick
